Iran Air finalises deal for 20 ATR

Thu Feb 16, 2017 2:57 pm

There it is, according to Reuters (no big news, but it's now done and official) :

Feb 15 IranAir has finalised a deal to buy 20 turboprop aircraft from Franco-Italian ATR, the minister overseeing Iran's post-sanctions fleet renewal was quoted on Wednesday as saying.

"Negotiations with ATR have reached the final stage; the two sides signed the contract to purchase 20 aircraft and now we are at the stage of exchanging documents," Roads and Urban Development Minister Abbas Akhoundi said, in remarks quoted by the Iranian Students News Agency.

Such a deal would be worth 540 million euros ($571 million)at list prices.

ATR declined to comment.

Indeed not a big surprise as ATR already assembled 4 Iran Air ATR aircraft. I guess deliveries will follow quickly.

These aircraft I think are for expansion into small cities.
It's great that they have got these aircraft coming.

TBH, I'd be surprised if they took any 42s.

Why ATRs? What were the reasons for these over the Q400 for example?

@berari probably because American influence is a lot more on Bombardier than ATR.

Iran air & ATR finally sign deal

Mon Apr 10, 2017 12:22 pm

Iran air and ATR finally signed a contract for 20 planes and 20 options. This deal had been in talks for months.

The deal was taking longer than planned related to a dispute with engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney.

Does this mean we can expect these three first ATRs to be delivered in the next days??
I mean, since these aircraft are already painted and are just awaiting delivery, what's holding them from delivery in the next 5 days?

If everything regarding the engines has been sorted out,I dont see why not given that these aircraft were specifically built for Iran Air, not like the others which had to have some changes because they were built for avianca.

I'm not sure, (I didn't write the article). However, this what the article reads:
'Speaking to the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) earlier this month, Fakhrieh-Kashan said several outstanding issues were still being negotiated with the Canadians given their concerns about how the PW127M powerplants will be used as well as after-sales support. No specific timeframe was given for their resolution.'

Flightglobal is citing ATR as follows:

ATR indicates it has yet to finalise an agreement to supply turboprops to Iran Air, despite reports of a deal in the local media.

So maybe we still have to be patient for a bit longer.

Should not be too much of an issue to get it done within that timeframe, but that is just my wild guessing.

This article suggests that the engine issues have been solved and that ATR themselves will complete the after sales services of the atr aircraft, not pratt and whitney. https://financialtribune.com/articles/d ... or-20-jets

The first 4 ATR aircraft have been handed over today.

Iran Air, Iran’s national flag carrier, today took delivery of its first four ATR 72-600s. ATR and Iran Air signed earlier this year a firm contract for 20 ATR 72-600s and options for a further 20. Deliveries of the 20 firm aircraft will extend until the end of 2018.
