May I suggest you correct the spelling of the city in question in the title? It's Phnom Penh.

"Outbound, flight EK388 will Depart Dubai at 0915hrs, and will arrive in Yangon at 1725hrs. It will then depart Yangon at 1855hrs, before arriving at Phnom Penh at 2125hrs. The departure time of flight EK388 from Dubai seamlessly connects with a number of European services such as Paris, London, and Frankfurt. On the return segment, flight EK389 will depart Phnom Penh at 2310hrs, and will arrive in Dubai at 0540hrs the next day, after a short stop in Yangon. All times are local."

Will they get local rights?

Would be good for jet star code share tourism travel around Asia (realise lower yield). Emirates code share on jet star already.

Yes, according to Press Release - local traffic rights between Yangon and Phnom Penh are available.

Dubai-Yangon will also see a time change, departing 5-6hrs later instead of the current schedule.

Schedule -

operated by a 2-class 77W

EK388 DXB0915 - 1725RGN1855 - 2125PNH 77W D

EK389 PNH2310 - 2340RGN0210 - 0540DXB 77W D

EK is still in the midst of the schedule change.

Emirates launching so many new routes, without adding new Aircraft just tells how underutilized their fleet is.

Not very attractive from Europe with many one-stop options available to PNH. Especially for the return flight which has horrible timings.

QR also flies PNH-DOH daily but via SGN.

Without adding any new aircraft?

Not sure of the disposals, and therefore net changes, but last year they added 20x A380 and 16x 777's, with more than half arriving in the second half of the 2016 calendar year, of which five A380's were delivered in December!

I agree, OP needs to change the name to reflect the correct spelling. Glad to see EK expanding in South-East Asia. Would like to see EK eventually add Chiang Mai, Vientiane, Surabaya and Medan in the region. I hope to see more EK expansion in the future.

And Hanoi becomes nonstop from DXB, replacing current via RGN routing.

EK to Vientiane? That's something TK would try...I can only see EK having codeshares with Chinese/SE Asian carriers for VTE routes.

As for other Indonesian cities, I am also wondering "when."

A few years ago any new city being opened up by EK would have resulted in a mega-thread with speculation as to when it would be up-gauged and when it would go double daily. It's a very different world today! That said this is quite interesting in that it establishes a regular RGN-PNH service. I'm shocked that the route is not already served given the swathe of LCC's in the ASEAN states.
