A320 hits 30 years in the skies.

Wed Feb 22, 2017 5:43 pm

Crazy to think this bird has been flying for 30 years, a plane well ahead of its time. Beautiful work by Airbus.

Very cool, though I think they are kinda boring, it's a fantastic aircraft nonetheless. To work with as well as to fly on!

Airbus made a pretty cool video for the anniversary:

Although I may hate it as I've flown around 80% of all of my flights aboard it, and not many other interesting aircraft. It is still a legend, truly an aircraft of the generation. Probably no aircraft family will ever outproduce A320ceo.

Amazing aircraft, although I concede: too common!
I remember my first flight back in 1988: boy, that thing seemed so ahead and so modern! And, in all honestly, it still looks and feels very modern...certainly more up-to-date than any 737...

I remember being in Toulouse for my A310 initial course in 1987, and was invited to try the new A320 simulator. I was astounded and found it so far ahead of its time, it was startling. Yet ... it took me all of about 10 minutes to get used to it, and have loved it since.

I echo olddannyboy's sentiment ... our first A320 delivered more than 25 years ago, is still more advanced than the new Max-8s coming this year!

Mmm... I feel AC is kind of going "back" with the Max-8.. :-( And, I assure you, I'm not biased towards Airbus or anything..I equally love Boeing aircrafts. But the A320 to me feels more sophisticated. A bit like an Audi vs an excellent, durable, reliable Ford.

What is the oldest A320 in service and where is it now? Does anyone know?

... oh wait! I can check AirFleets. According to their list it is Air India's VT-EPF, MSN49, first flown on May 19, 1989. I wonder if that information is correct...

Yes, I finally learned how to embed photos. 8-)

Last photo of EPF is from 2015. It is a former Indian Airlines plane and has those rare double bogied main landing gear. When I saw #2 Picture I thought the Registration may be false but as photo #3 explains it is the same aircraft.

Nice video. Nice plane. Congratulations to Airbus for such a brilliant airliner and its success.

…Only thing, I really, deeply, dislike Airbus' official music provider. Obnoxious, cheap and noisy. Every time.

I bet no one thought back then that they would be churning them out at 40+ copies a month with plans to go to 60 a month.

I've been flying the A319, A320 & A321 for five years. It's a very nice and comfortable aircraft to operate as a pilot. Congrats A320! I'm just one month older than you!

Nice video. 11 downvotes though, bitter 737 fans presumably

Without the A320 there would be no unified Airbus company as exists now, as the previous A300 and A310 did ok, but were very much the product of a JV like Concorde or the Tornado, and nowhere near successful enough to consolidate a whole European industry around.
