Spotting A318 in California?

Sat Mar 11, 2017 12:54 am

Never seen one around Southern California. Any suggestions on where to see one around here?

Victorville. Seriously. I don't think there are any A318 operations into the US save for BA on LCY-JFK.
When wasn't America great?

A318CJs are unique but can be found at the major airports on rare occasions. Frontier A318s must be beer cans by now.

Avianca flies them to Miami from Medellin, Barranquilla and Cartagena.

Thanks for the update! I didn't know that! Still a long ways from SoCal, however.

20/80 A318 produced were for VIP transport. That likely, as was previously stated, you best bet.

If you get the chance to head to Europe, your chances increase exponentially. TAROM, BA, and AF.

I think the BA JFK-LCY must be a dream!

Just to be mean, here's what that looks like...

Mmmmm, mmmmmm. Hmmmm. Mmmmm!

Slightly related - are there any 737-600s in California? I mean, shrinks don't make it, I know - but what's the most likely 'baby' to find, in CA?

I had the chance to fly on N805FR over 10 years ago. Ollie the Owl. This was the 2nd A318 prototype before being re-engined and delivered to F9.
Ironically, I don't work for OO anymore, and I'm not in SLC anymore. PDX based, aviation enthusiast, non-aviation worker.

Sometimes Westjet sends them to SoCal, but you're better off just going to Las Vegas and seeing the Janet (EG&G) birds operating out of LAS. I saw their entire 6 strong Dash 600 fleet in just a few days when I went there this past Winter.

Get a job with a defense contractor at Area 51 in Nevada. They sometimes fly to Victorville and Edwards AFB.

My one and only flight on a 318 was 4 years ago, just a few months before Frontier scrapped all its 318's.

N318FR. Stu the Rabbit.

Frustratingly for this thread..... The flight was from DEN-SAN.

Umm, I don't think that they'll let me wear my tinfoil hat under the uniform!

Vegas, though - might be a decent place to 'catch' an A318, no? Private charters? VIPs wishing to wing it?

Why does this makes me say "Awwwww, how cute?". Great use of the airplane! I am constantly baffled by Colombia's diversity, and AV's needs. BOG is at 2500meters altitude. I guess this little rocket ship must be loved here.

I'll try to wrestle it up, but I have to thank a poster in the recent AV A318 thread, who put those two together for me. Everyday, something new to learn!

The airport might be premium traffic and not heavy demand daily, I have seen American A319's to BOG.

I get that. If it were capable of A380s, I would expect them. The A318 is a baby, but nonetheless, a powerful one considering that it might be hauling some cargo, and up to/down from BOG which is at 8000ft above sea level (approx). Long, thin, and nimble sort of route, and likely without the A318 would lose the direct nature of the route. I could see, if demand were to falter further - the flight would be gone. That said, it's really cute, that it is still here, and I wish them well. At least, I'm not in California (wink, wink) - because apart from JFK (with BA), it seems that FLL, and MIA (with AV) are it.

As a side - I see that some of the A318s are registered under the Avianca Brasil operation. Anyone know what routes they are on? As that airline is looking at moving towards better fleet management (and rid themselves of their A332s), I wonder if those A318s will be back on the open market soon? If so, I assume AV will take them. If not, a new operator perhaps?

I actually flew on a WestJet B736 from Vancouver to LAX, which was a fun experience having my Tim Hortons brand Hot Chocolate spill onto my jeans twice.
Well uh, I obviously decided to refine this but i dont know how.
