Uh yeah.... If airlines really want that kind of range they would just order the 788. MOM needs to be optimized for this 4500-5000nm strange length.

This is precisely the reason why the 787-8 isn't a good 767 replacement. It's the same reason the 757 died while the 737NG (and A320 series) grew to be almost but not quite as good, and have thrived. Carrying around too much capability that you don't use is a waste of money. The plane is overbuilt, so it costs too much to buy, and it's heavier so it costs too much to fly. If extra range was free, they'd build everything to be able to fly 10,000 nm. There's a reason they don't.
