Southwest will start flying the 737 MAX from October this year:

Southwest Airlines Southwest Airlines on Thursday 16MAR17 opened reservation for its new Boeing 737MAX 8 (IATA Code: 7M8), set to enter operations on 01OCT17. Initially, the airline will put 9 aircraft into revenue service on 01OCT17, and for the first week the MAX 8 will serve over 20 cities in Southwest network. A 10th aircraft is scheduled to enter service by the following week.

Plane will have 175 seats.

Is this plane meant to have more takeoff 'ooomph' which is why Midway is frequently cited?

So, are the 737 Max planes coded as 7M7/8/9 for IATA officially? And B7M7/8/9 for ICAO or still the same as the NG series?

I'm my defense, my question was actually rooted from reading the initial post, that of which I wanted to clarify, and further elaborate.

The IATA 7M8 designation is literally the first time I encountered it as official. Especially it being from routesonline only, I wanted to clarify. That's why I wanted to know too if a similar designation has been made with ICAO. I intended it for additional points of discussion but I guess not, since all the answers to my questions can be inferred from the initial post.

Not only that, but I think the article said "...put into service..." and not "...taken deliivery of...". They might have taken delivery of more than 9 by Oct 1 but not all may have been placed into service.
