Where was the flight re-positioned from, or did UA have a maintenance facility in OAK?

Didn't NW have a middle-of-the-night 747 run that had a name? I believe it did MSP-MKE-DTW-JFK and back.

Thought of a couple more

JL - ATL/SEA and SEA/ATL
Before the 744 was available they did a tag on the ATL/NRT run, stop in SEA both ways

CI - SEA/IAH
Was usually an A340 but they subbed the 744 occasionally. May not meet the OP's criteria though since he said regualr service

My first 747 flight was SEA-DEN on a United -400 in the summer of 1999. Might have been a one-off but I think it was scheduled, since we booked our SEA-MSP on United instead of Northwest just to bag that 744 plus a 772 from DEN-SEA.

That's probably about right. Up until when it went nonstop, UA marketed DEN-NRT as being a direct flight with a stop in SEA. I could be wrong, but UA even sent domestic 763s on DEN-SEA up until the late 2000s.

Yes. Up until the late 90s or perhaps as late as early 2000 UA had a maintenance base at OAK. DC-10s were also shuffled between SFO-OAK for maintenance.

Here are a few more:
UA
SFO-KOA

I didn't see this listed, but in the early 70's AA flew a 747 JFK-BDL late evening because there was no RON space at JFK back then.

I didn't see this listed, but in the early 70's AA flew a 747 JFK-BDL late evening because there was no RON space at JFK back then. DL's early 747 ops were somewhat odd. they had three westbound flights DAL to LAX/SFO, but only one LAX-DAL eastbound, none from SFO.

They did operate this flight. I used to see the 747 at DFW, one flight a week in each direction.

Another early 70's destination. ITO. PA, NW, and UA all flew them, I don't believe any were daily. LAX/SFO/SEA/PDX are the destinations I remember.

Yes, that was a scheduled flight for awhile back in that time frame. It was a re-positioning flight IIRC. Used to see it departing occasionally on my way in to work

I did the UA 747-400 SEA-DEN in May 1999 as well. Also, in the 70s UA 114/193 were HNL-LAX-DEN-ORD and vice versa. My first 747 flight was #114 N4723U LAX-DEN on 9 July 1977. I flew the return #193 DEN-LAX on June 3, 1978.

Additionally, Flying Tigers was another providing military passenger charters from overseas to stateside airports. I flew 747-133 N890FT (former EI-BPH, etc etc) from Osan AB to Yokota AB to Anchorage to OAK in Jan 1989. I think it continued on to STL. FT also had a former Aerolineas Argentinas 747-287B LV-MLO in service at the same time and both were regulars on the mentioned route and others.

I don't remember too much about this flight since it was the late 90s, but I want to believe I went to DTW on an NW 742 at one point, if not it must've been a DC-10, but I flew on the DC-10 a lot to DTW.

I have a recollection of my first 747 flight. I can't remember the exact year but it was approximately 1970 or 1971. I was a young lad but traveled on AA's inaugural flight from LAX to JFK. There was a small ribbon cutting ceremony as we boarded. I was shocked at the size of the 747 since I had only been on 727's before. I recall people near the runway. They came to view the 747. You could do that back then. I remember towering over other aircraft as we taxied to the runway. I asked about the small ceremony at the gate when the FA passed by. She said it was American's first flight on a jumbo jet from LAX to JFK. If someone could tell me the year, It would be great.
