Maybe they're desperate to sell this frame and are offering it for a comparable price to a new 777-200ER

You shouldn't read anything into that. Planespotters will have simply copied Cawby's tweet and posted it as fact. They have a long history of doing similar and it's come back to bite them on the ass on numerous occasions.

Not a surprise at all, as Turkish tourism shrinks dramatically, if it comes to Germans its ca. 50% down from the 2014 figures. Erdogan ist doing his best to make matters worse for TK.

THY748i wrote:Maybe if IR is desperate enough and Boeing hasn't yet set their mind on ultimately killing off the 748i altogether, maybe we'll see a 748 order from IR (one can dream, can't one...). Not saying that desperation is the only selling point for the 748 but Boeing would definitely have a lot of negotiation power.

But Trump always talks about jobs, and boeing so far, whenever they have announced a deal with iranian airlines, they go on to talk about the amount of jobs the order will create. For the Aseman deal, they said it would sustain 18000 jobs. Surely IR would have a bigger impact on jobs considering the 777 orders are reducing, and will need orders to continue employing people.

Mahan Air operates the A340-600, which have similar dimentions...
I guess the 747-8 could operate normally in Iran.
Would be absolutely wonderful to see Iran Air picking up some 747-8s... I wonder why those Transaero-NTU birds didn't go to IR.

Indeed incredible news!!! This is good for Iran air, but also for travellers, and plane spotters!! Looking fowards to seing this beautifull aircraft in Iran air's colors...
Where do you reckon we would see it fly to? Do you believe it would be more regional flying (like the a330s currently)? Or maybe already flying to LHR, FRA etc...?
If anyone has info regarding the first destinations, please let me know!

In fairness, those links are not "confirming" it and nor do any of the previous links confirm it either. The links above are simply citing the Iran deputy minister for roads and infrastructure (ie. nothing to do with aviation) who said it was a done deal. The other links are merely quoting some random blog sites and twitter posts. There has not been any OFFICIAL source posted, such as from Boeing nor the airline themselves, Iran Air. Why not if it's a done deal? And unless I've missed the announcement, the US Government has still not given the green light for US companies to do business with Iran yet either.

I hope you're right. However, I still belive the 747-8 capacity is too high (even if it's not that much more than the 777-300er). I also think that if they wanted to take some, it would have been included in the order signed earlier by Iran air and Boeing.

My sentiments exactly, I'm surprised at how Iran did not waste a moment to jump int bed with Boeing, no self respect at all considering their detest for US at state level.

It may be to their advantage but they should have held back from dealing with Boeing for atleast a year,, with Trump on his humiliation spree it would have made even better sense not to indulge, where did the pride, self respect and dignity go? its like they were literally salivating for an opportunity to get coy with US again, I recall Ahmedinijad had requested Iran Air flights to New York and Los Angeles, all the while spewing anti-US rhetoric.
