An hour out from HNL on 05 April, nausea from fumes in aft cabin reported by FAs, captain declares emergency and returns to HNL.

The aircraft was N519AS. It will be ferried back to the mainland today.

Seems to be a lot of odour related issues showing up these these days, I suppose it could be many things, but an hour out in flight over the Pacific, is not nice.
Only 76 passengers, does that seem light for this route?

Were pax sickened? Sometimes the "crew sickened" when nobody else is is code for a labor dispute of some kind.
Of all the things to worry about... the Wookie has no pants.

No pax went to the hospital. No further news reports about the 4 FAs. FARs only require 3 FAs up to 150 seats.... so it appears that the F class FA also went to the hospital (the FA would normally not rotate to the aft cabin within an hour after TO ... unless the F cabin FA was called there).

There was something similar several yrs ago on a US Airways flight back to the U.S. from a Caribbean island (can't remember which one). The daughter of a friend of ours was an FA on that flight. Pax were also affected on the flight as well, if memory serves. She fell very ill, and had to go thru much rehab and occupational therapy. But she's back flying again.
Great Lakes, great life.

Yes, IIRC, there was a certain US A333 that continuously had fume issues and was always sending crews to hospital.

And the evidence that such is in any way probable in this case?

Regardless, 4 flight attendants went to hospital. Multiple reports of passengers also experiencing similar symptoms but AS reports no passengers "ill", probably because no passenger asked for or had any indication that medical attention was desired.

I can assure you that there are no official or "unofficial" labor disputes going on at Alaska right now with their Flight Attendants. This was not a "labor dispute" of any kind.

No new developments... other than speculation that "aerotoxic syndrome" may have made the FAs, in contrast to pax and pilots, more susceptible.
