Split-hub operations at both MXP and LIN in Milan have often been cited as a reason for Alitalia's demise. Would long-haul flights from Linate be possible?
A number of airports with shorter runways than LIN can support year-round long-haul nonstop flights; SXM, NCL and RAR come to mind. When KL can operate SXM-AMS nonstop with an A332, EK on NCL-DXB with a 77W, and NZ on RAR-LAX with a 77E, what stops an airline from operating, say, LIN-JFK or LIN-BKK with an A332 or 777?
