New KLM 737-800s

Thu May 11, 2017 5:24 am

I notice that KLM have transferred two 737s from Transavia; PH-HSD/E. Does anyone know if these are permanent transfers or something temporary to help with summer capacity?

Have the planes been fully reconfigured with KLM interiors?

Thanks

I believe Transavia's base in Munich is closing down so they may be shuffling things around the group.

Permanent transfers. They have been fully reconfigured to KLM spec in Norwich by KLM uk engineering. KLM didn't have any on order directly and couldn't take the newest 738 on order by Transavia because these would have the sky interior fitted. This is something KLM doesn't want yet to keep full commonality with the rest of the fleet.

The names given, Blue tail and green woodpecker are also meant as a reference to their Transavia history.

Hope this clears it up.

Both are fully reconfigured into KLM style, outside and inside and are permanent additions to the KLM 737 fleet.

These particular two aircraft have been selected because both are the last two delivered to Transavia with the non- BSI interior, like the KLM fleet. (BSI = Boeing Sky Interior)
Operating a twin over the ocean, you're always one engine failure from a total emergency.

Yes, this clears it up.

Presume these will be the last short haul additions until the next big order. The oldest 738s are 18 years old now so presumably an order for new aircraft will be due in the next 3-5 years.

PS - Do Transavia have any more aircraft on order? I believe they still have the aircraft on lease from GOL which I don't know if it is short term or long term?

Thanks for your replies folks.

In order for easy reconfiguration, all KLM and Transavia 737s are, except for the interior, all delivered according to the same specs. This makes it easy to move the aircraft between fleets. This can also be seen as all KLM 737NGs have the K2 customer code (like 737-8K2) instead of the 06 KLM code (e.g. 777-306ER). (The only exception is the PH-BXU, this is a 737-8BK. This was from a order of CIT Aerospace and the aircraft was needed unexpectedly after the PH-BTC had write-off in BCN).

They still have some frames to be delivered from their big order of 2015. I don't know how they'll be distributed over France/Netherlands

The GOL leases are summer only. These aircraft do have a different configuration.

Can we expect a 737MAX order for AF-KLM or are there plans to switch to an all A320neo fleet? I can hardly believe that they will maintain two different single aisle fleets or that AF will switch to an 737 fleet as they've ordered all most every single Airbus type yet.

Why wouldn't KL/AF want both the A320NEO and 737MAX? They both have large enough A320/737 fleets that are and be operated side by side.
