It has been the Singapore government's policy to sign totally open skies air services agreements with other countries with a similar liberal approach for many years. It perceives that such agreements encourage the maximum competition to the benefit of the consumer. As an example the UK / Singapore Open Skies Agreement dates back to October 2007 and came into force at the time of the more restrictive EU / US Open Skies Agreement. It allows British airlines to operate between Singapore and any other country with an open skies policy. Similarly any Singaporean airline can fly between the UK and any such third country:
