That's an emotional support lobster.

It's not illegal to transport lobsters in checked luggage, fairly common in New England and I've seen it often in South Florida as well.

That's one crazy big lobster tho!

Pretty sure this is the comment of the day. I honestly wouldn't put it past someone -- there have already been emotional support pigs, miniature horses, turkeys, goats, hedgehogs, gila monsters, and I'm sure a bunch of other ones I'm forgetting. An emotional support lobster wouldn't even be the most ridiculous one.

I wonder how much the owner had to shell out to claw back his property?

The same is actually true in BOS. Each terminal has a legal seafoods that will pack live lobster. Although I have yet to be on a flight were my seatmate has taken them up on this offer. https://www.legalseafoods.com/restauran ... minal-c-59

TSA Spokesperson: "The lobster was asked to remove books from his carry-ons. One of the books was 'The Lobster's Cookbook', a well-known subversive book used by lobster terrorists. He was detained until FBI and airport security could question him."

ACLU Spokesperson: "It's a lobster" (mic drop)

forget checked luggage ... in Boston, they pack them in nice little waxed cardboard carry boxes, and they go right in the overhead bin.

It's more than a bit ... weird ... to be sitting there on a flight, and above you all you hear is "scratch scratch scratch scratch" of the thing scurrying around in its box.

Thankfully the TSA did not send the "loabsta" to the crush-station (ooooooo, I know that is bad....)

Comment of the year!

Seriously, how do some of these things get so big?

Also, is it just me, or does the TSA employee look like James Hetfield of Metallica?
Let me up!

The people who bought the lobsters (and the people who packed them) are not amused.

This reminds me of the time going through LAX, when the two guys in front of me were connection from BOS for who knows where. We were in the line waiting to go through the metal detector, and the TSA tried to X-Ray the live lobster. Both lobster men were adamantly against it, the pax got in to it with TSA, and essentially everyone stopped while a near melee ensured about running a live lobster through the X-ray machine. I'm not a specialist in lobsters (just eating lobster rolls), but it seems that you shouldn't put live animals through the machine if you want them to be alive when they come out.

Anycase, it seems the buyer/seller of said lobster in the OP was VERY upset about this incident, and likely for good cause.

When I first saw this story, I was slightly amused with the picture. Then I read the articles and it made a lot of sense why the passengers were upset. I don't want TSA parading around my belongs, and the issue with how they were packed is valid. Heck, I am still upset about TSA taking a bag of Doritos out of a protective box in my duffle bag and leaving it loose to be smashed all over my belongs. I can't imagine what someone would think if their lobster arrived missing a claw.

Of all the time I flew back from BOS (see my above post), I never saw the lobsters unpacked from their cases, and every single one of them went through the x-ray machine.

Considering their future, a single x-ray dose is not going to damage them.
