Trying to date this ORD terminal map. Help please.

Sun Jul 02, 2017 9:42 pm

Hello all....

I am trying to find a date for this terminal diagram of O'Hare Airport.

I see that Lake Central is listed as one of the carriers, so it must be from 1968 or sooner.

Is there anyone who can help further pinpoint the date?

Thanks in advance.

The silhouette of the DC-9 might suggest after July 1966. If not that then, Trans-Canada Air Lines officially became Air Canada on January 1, 1965.

I'm seeing Lake Central on that list and they went out in 1968 so I think its from 66-68

Notably missing are Allegheny and Piedmont.

I'm not sure, but did Allegheny serve ORD pre-Lake Central merger? That may be why they aren't showing up. I have some old PI timetables, seems they started in the late 60s. I know one early destination from Chicago was TRI.

You've also got BOAC on there which became British Airways in 1974. So, as said above, it had to be between Ozark starting DC-9's in 1966 and Lake Central merging into Allegheny in 1968. On the Aug 1, 1966 timetable, Allegheny was not flying to ORD.

I know for a fact Piedmont didn't start ORD service until 1974. Allegheny gained ORD access through the Lake Central merger in 1968.

Piedmont served MDW until 1974.
