Kuwait Airways planning Sarajevo flights

Tue Jul 04, 2017 8:29 am

Kuwait Airways has said it plans to start flights to Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is interesting because this would be the third Middle East-based airline to start flights to Sarajevo this year (the second from Kuwait) and Qatar Airways is also going to start this year.

There is more about that here: http://www.exyuaviation.com/2017/07/kuw ... ajevo.html

Sarajevo is currently served by Fly dubai (Dubai), Air Arabia (Sharjah), Nesma Airlines (Riyadh) and Wataniya Airways (Kuwait from 13 JUL). Qatar Airways is launching 4 weekly flights to Sarajevo this year too. Quite interesting for a relatively small European airport.

Doesn't seem like there would be much market for this flight.

Why!?

They are bringing people from dozens and dozens of countries into B&H for tourism and business. Authorities should be glad, and they probably are.
Never be proud. Always be grateful.

This would a resumption of service. KU previously served SJJ. Kuwaiti private operator Wataniya also served SJJ in the past.

Nonsense.

SJJ is already an increasingly popular place for Middle Eastern tourist. SJJ is actually one of the top connection markets from many of TKs Middle East routes and has been so for many years.

Look into the history of Bosnia (hint Ottoman Empire), and you will the links between the regions.

Its the start of Climate Change immigration. It's the only stable muslim majority country with nice weather. While the Gulf has had 4 days in a row of +50 degree celsius, its 20 in the mountains. They are buying up property in the mountains which is cheap. They don't mix well however so the money wont do Bosnia good things. It's not like tourists who leave. They bring their radicalism and corruption.

The popularity of travel to Bosnia from Arabian Gulf region has existed for since the end of the Balkan wars. Arabs also are participating in many infrastructure and development projects in Bosnia which obviously helps also drive air travel demand.

So no, its not surprising that KU joins fellow Arab carriers serving Sarajevo.

To highlight the popularity of Sarajevo, below are the top 10 connection markets on TK into SJJ.

1. DXB
2. KWI
3. PVG
4. AMM
5. CAI
6. DOH
7. RUH
8. IKA
9. JFK
10. JED

Say a lot that 8 of the 10 top connection markets are from the Mideast.

What's wrong with Albania? Nice weather, mountains as well as splendid beaches (which Bosnia and Herzegovina has only a few kilometees of at Neum).

Maybe Albania is missing the touristic infrastructure??

Arabs like green nature and Mountains. Bursa is an alltime favourite in Turkey. In recent years as touristic infranstructure is developing also North-East of Turkey (Trabzon, Rize, Giresun, Ordu) becoming popular for Araps. There are almost 5-10 flights a day to TZX and OGU.
Also nearby Batumi in Georgia has flights by Arab Carriers.

All of Wanatniya first new destinations are non-ME, Baku, Tbilisi and Sarajevo, a first for a gulf carrier.
