Corsair's wet-leased A340 question

Sat Jul 08, 2017 11:01 pm

I've noticed earlier today that SS flight between ORY and YUL was operated by an A340 with titles (9H-SUN) wet-leased from Hi Fly. It appears the aircraft has been operating the route since about June 24th when the lease started, instead of the "usual" A333. Are they short of capacity and is it going to be for the whole summer?

Could be a while. 9H-SUN how has Corsair titles on an otherwise blank fuselage.

It's also peak season in Europe, so SS may be doing lucrative charter work and have leased in extra capacity just like other TUI divisions and similar carriers like TCX are doing.

SS could also be doing more frequencies on their regular routes, but the main factor is it's now into deep Summer season.

Before being transferred to Corsair, this very same A340 was leased to Azores Airlines during the first 3 weeks of June, and flew PDL-YUL-PDL on June 1.

So 2 different airlines used the same plane from Europe to YUL, 3 and a half weeks apart..
us Air Traffic Controllers have a good record, we haven't left one up there yet !!

Could be it indeed. Both of their A333s are more or less flying ORY-DKR-ORY-FDF-ORY lately, both routes being daily. On SS site, YUL is bookable until Sept. 30th so I guess this is the duration of the lease.

As a side note I wish they would put the full livery to the A340.

Like stated by others it's pretty common practice during Summer season. EB (Wamos) is operating various intraeuropean routes with a 747 on behalf of DY for exemple.

Corsair flight Paris Orly-Montreal, is a seasonal service.

Early 2010s, Corsair made a restructuration (Takeoff 2012). The airline is became a 100% scheduled airline. They have dropped, Nairobi, Halifax, Mombasa, Quebec City and the short lived route to Miami. All flights from French Province, were also suspended.

Corsair phased out 3 B747-400s (last 747s should leave the fleet by 2020 / 2021), "replaced" by 2 A330-300s

They started new route to Abidjan (seasonal), in 2013. This year, they started to serve Cuba (Havana & Varadero). Both routes are served with A330.

B747 (3 B747s) routes: mainly Reunion, Mauritius, Guadeloupe and Martinique.
A330 (4 A330s) routes: mainly Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire, Cuba, Mayotte, Reunion, Montreal, Madagascar, Guadeloupe & Martinique.

During busy period, it can sometimes become hard for Corsair, to serve all its destinations with its own aircraft. Recently, we had Hifly A340 "Swiss Space Systems livery" and Wamos B747, at Paris Orly, operating for Corsair.

Corsair has also received authorization to fly to SXM and UVF, will likely share with PTP. Wonder when they'll start hinting service.

It would be nice to see Corsair back in St. Maarten again. Especially if they go with a 747 tag on to FDF or PTP!

I have also seen EB's 744 and A330's at BHX and MAN just recently operating extra lift for TOM,MT and also ZB, going off subject does Corsair still operate their Boeing 747-400's?

They do, on ORY-FDF/PTP/RUN and RUN-TNR-RUN routes.

It seems everyone wants to get rid of their B747-400s now.
I wonder when people will understand:
Embraer 190 or simply E190, not ERJ-190. E-Jets are NOT ERJs!
Boeing 747-8, not Boeing 747-800. Same goes for 787.
Airbus A320, not Airbus 320.
Airbii does not exist.

The wet-lease is now over. 9H-SUN did its last SS901 flight from Saturday Sept. 3rd and returned to BRU Sunday a few hours after landing at ORY. SS900/901 are now operated with an A333 4x weekly.
