They have 18 A319NEOs on order, which was 20 originally. And we're talking about SNA-MIA, not LAX-CVG. LAX runways are twice as long as SNA. The A320 CEO or NEO would be heavily weight restricted to fly anything over 3 hours from SNA, IMO.

SNA has the advantage of being a west coast airport and all flights travel east with the prevailing winds. CO used to do SNA-EWR non-stop.

CO sure did operate it with a 73G and UA still operates it with a 73G.
DL operates SNA-ATL with a 757-200.
UA operates SNA-ORD with an a320 and 73G, AA is 738.
SNA-IAH is a mix of 738, 73G and A320.
SNA-DFW is all 738.
It's 3.5 hours SNA-ORD, both DFW and IAH are just a hare under 3 hours and all can be done on just about any 737 or A320 family aircraft without a significant weight restriction.

Atl is 4 hours and DL does it with a 752 so they can take as many people in one trip without a weight restriction, and UA does EWR in 5 hours with a 73G, which they could use a 752 or A319 if they wanted.
Like I said, F9 couldn't do MIA with anything more than an A319.

Could they do SNA-MCO in their a320neo? It be awesome if they could connect the 2 Disneys.

MCO would have to be A319 as it is roughly 5 hours from SNA.

MIA is also getting flights to 3w to Buffalo, 4w to Trenton, and, and this shocks me in frequency, double daily to Islip.

This is in addition to Milwaukee, Providence, Cincinnati, Cleveland, a Detroit and resumption of LaGuardia.

Plus Islip is getting a daily to PBI, so F9 is going all out at Islip. And I bet TPA, RSW too. I also see TPA-BUF and GRR-MCO.

They are starting to show up.

Miami is getting Cincinnati (3w), Cleveland (3w), Detroit (4w), Milwaukee (daily)

Finally Milwaukee and Providence get MIA service after AA has ignored them for so long.

Looking at some random dates I pulled up on F9's web-site, MKE-MIA operating as F9 flight 1511 departs at 8:13pm and arrives 10:33pm. MIA-MKE operating as F9 flight 1508 departs 6:29am and arrives in MKE at 11:05am.

I'd post the screenshot, but I can't per upload reqirements.

Took a quick look at the March peak and here's how it looks:
Miami daily (new)
Tampa daily (new)
Fort Myers daily (was 4/week last year)
Orlando daily (same as last year)
Las Vegas daily (same as last year)
Phoenix 4/week (same as last year)
Denver 4/week (was daily last year)

Nice year-over-year bump from 29/week 2017 to to 43/week in 2018.

Some of these markets have been ripe for some nonstop service; AA's just ignored it and/or hasn't had the right equipment. That said, how much do you want to bet we see at least a winter seasonal 1x daily E75 MIA-BUF?

It's interesting to see F9 adding direct, same plane service in many markets.

DEN-AUS-RDU
DEN-MSY-PVD
SAN-AUS/SAT-MSY-MCO

Not sure if they've done much of this in the past and I'm sure there are many more examples.

They have been doing it for quite some time but there were only a handful of routes. It looks like they are significantly expanding these types of flights.

F9 is a few months late on RDU-AUS. DL just started the route daily recently. Don't know if there is enough demand for two dailies on a CR9 and A320.

Frontier and Spirit sure make things interesting. They truly will try anything. Not that it sticks a lot of the time, but admire their creativity. It is rare when you see this from any of the big carriers.

So that's 11 new routes for TPA so far. I was commenting in the TPA thread that this is really reminiscent of AirTran's pre-2008 crash/pre-merger seasonal footprint out of TPA.

Looks like SAN has gained nonstop service to SAT, maybe 4x weekly, split with the 3x weekly SAN-AUS route that started in April. As has been identified earlier in the thread, both of the Texas flights continue straight through to MSY r/t.

Otherwise, I'll just wait for some sort of recap of the new routes from F9 -- the carrier sure makes it difficult to search for new and discontinued flights/routes...

I find it interesting how different airports handle different route announcements. Some tease it on twitter/facebook, some have press conferences, and some do nothing. They might add it as a footnote at the end of their weekly news or maybe tweet out something afterwards.

It is really strange that F9 is withholding CVG's schedule extension until the 1 pm press conference. There was talk of CVG becoming an actual hub for Frontier, should be interesting. I think we might see a crew/plane base as well, so this could be very big!

RONKONKOMA -
Frontier Airlines is expected to announce that it is expanding service in and out of MacArthur Airport.

Starting in October, the airline will offer flights to Denver and New Orleans – as well as multiple locations in Florida including Miami, Tampa, Fort Meyers, and West Palm Beach.

It will also offer flights to Puerto Rico starting August 16. That's the same day it rolls out its previously announced flights to Orlando.

Why endure the nightmare and congestion of LAX when BUR, LGB, ONT & SNA is so much easier to fly in and out of. Same with OAK & SJC when it comes to SFO.
