Kenya Airways B737-800 ground collision at JKIA

Mon Jul 24, 2017 9:26 am

Rumours that a KQ 737 heading to Johannesburg had to be delayed due to a collision with a tow truck. Any more info on this?
Thanks and best Regards

It'll buff out.....

Certainly looks like it hit quite hard and then scraped against it for a bit. Doesn't look like a quick fix but then again, I'm not an aircraft engineer.

How long would an aircraft with this kind of damage be out of service for? Does KQ have spare capacity to cover this plane while it's being repaired?
Thanks and best Regards

KQ can be happy, that orange cable prevented even more damage... ;-)

Perhaps they should start redesigning those tow-truck cabins so as to have rounded and padded edges. Of course, whether it scrapes or bends the surface, the damage is the same. This should take a month to repair and what amazes me is that it happened "amidships": the truck barely missed the engine (if you see a full picture of their 737-800). And by the way,Kenya Airways, what kind of a sign is that on the tail? Why don't you replace it with the lion of East African airways, your predecessor? It's time to do a full makeover. So you guys at NBO have your cameras ready, this plane could do a test flight before repainting...

There is no way in hell this plane is getting off the ground with that much damage on the fuselage

Safe to say, that's a fairly expansive and expensive skin patch job headed their way ...

KQ also confirming damage to the engine on Twitter. I wouldn't be surprised if there is damage to the inside leading edge of that wing given the position and force of the tug as it ripped the fuselage.

The aircraft is 8 years old so will be interesting to see what happens as that looks to the layman as a lot of repair work.

Does KQ have spare capacity to cover this plane while it's being repaired?

KQ have 10 pax 737's and 15 E190's in the fleet. How does utilisation look? From memory they work those aircraft quite hard. Hopefully they'll be able to manage without one for quite a while....
