mumblings that next A380 BA route will be LAS, winter only. Going from twice daily 744 to od A380.
Be interesting to see if comes to fruition. Its the one destination that I certainly wouldnt be surprised over, especially if LAS can indeed accommodate.
Big improvement from scabby old 744s. Shame it couldnt move back to T5 at same time.

I would expect BA 287/286 to revert to a full A380 service for S18.

This annoyed me as I'm due to fly on a the 287 on a Monday

Although the A380 is great to experience (especially for aviation enthusiasts like us) the old BA 772s are a far more comfortable ride in Y...

You can't have ever sat in the 2 seats together on the upper deck then!

Also I'm sure the same pilot said on twitter its a summer 18 route.

'Captain Dave' is a BA A380 captain on Twitter. He says that BA will announce a new A380 destination for S18, but he stops short of saying which continent. I'm guessing Chicago or JFK.

The announcement will come next week.

I don't think JFK is A380 ready at T7?

I'm going with ORD as an educated guess.

It won't be JFK for sure. BA seems to prefer frequency over capacity. And the terminal is not A380 compatible. Taxiing a 77W is already a challenge in those tight alleyways.

And they won't be using terminals 1 or 4 just for one A380 service. They're already shelling out a shitload of money to renovate the terminal.

I'm still perplexed on why not just coordinate with AA on finishing T8 and just combining ops there.

Too simplistic my friend. You might as well ask how many 737's sold and how many 777's? The A380 is a different beast, albeit a niche beast. But in that niche it is unbeatable and makes those airlines that operate it well (EK, BA) very handsome returns on their investments.

Most consumers are suckers for an upgrade (yep, me included). Why do you think when you hire a car you are offered a Mondeo over a Focus for just a few extra dollars/pounds/rand/camels? A380 can be sold in the same way.

What you could ask is how many airline ads have a 777 on it and how many an A380.

Wouldnt have thought so, even with increased competition. Is there capacity and premium demand?
Consensus is its ORD

Everyone to their own I suppose, but I have no idea why anyone would think that flying on a BA772 is anywhere near as good a flying experience as their 380's.

AFAIC, the A380 is the best ride in the sky by a country mile, and I include the B787 in that view also.

I thought BA has been interested for a while in running the A380 on LHR-ORD?

My Chicago buddy has been quiet the last week (after foreshadowing UA-Hawaii, UA 744 flight, DY, and BUD). There will be more 744 flights and possible Dreamliner route!

Latest tease is a "big" announcement! Will it be be BA or EK first with the whale! Also, expect a few more route announcements and update on terminal upgrades! Exciting times at ORD ahead!

Most will be USA upguages with a few more international routes (includes MDW).

Stay tuned!

The A380 was been billed as the future of air travel, but today, it is just relegated to small niche beast.

So now, BA is the exclusive operator of the A380 in two cities: Chicago and Boston. Looking forward to seeing the A380 at ORD!

ORD will be daily and BOS (apparently) will still be 3x weekly, so some other A380 city is going to be losing service to make room for this.

Yes. There will be a few more 744 flights at ORD before the desert. Just be prepared for short notice, or able to plan for the final route (rumored ORD-SFO).

Also, there may be a couple of more ORD announcements for S18. Nothing shocking, but expected...

Are they delaying the actual retirement or scheduling changes to the existing October schedule?

What took BA so long to start the A380 service to ORD? I first heard this rumor several years ago.
