Cathay Pacific Repaint Status

Thu Aug 24, 2017 1:20 pm

Hi all,

Cathay are in the process of implementing their new corporate identity across its fleet. This includes the 125+ Cathay mainline fleet and 45+ Cathay Dragon fleet.

Bearing in mind that CX is currently loss making after posting a HK$2.05 billion loss for the first two quarters of 2017, will this have an effect on repainting aircraft to the new livery? Does anyone have an update as to which aircraft have been repainted already?

Many thanks,

Simon

Hey mate,
I am yet to see a new livery Cathay anything here in Sydney (up to five flights a day I believe), but I don't 'live' at the airport ...
I do think that the new livery looks best (in photos anyway) on the A350!
Cheers

numbers of 772; 77W; 333 (CX & KA) (including those transferring to KA) and 320/321 will gone in the next few years,
therefore, the repaint process looks slow but when the new planes beginning to come, the older livery will gone rapidly

Thanks for the responses. I am flying AMS-HKG-ICN-TPE-HKG-AMS in a few weeks time and hope at least one of the aircraft will have the new scheme :-). 3 x 77W and 2 x 333.

I would be surprised if CX would waste money on repainting one of those old 772s, or 773s will likely follow them to the scrappers soon after.

The -200s are being retired soon and will not be repainted, but the -300s are staying for the foreseeable future, and being joined by five more from Emirates. A few of the -300s have already been repainted, including the new “Spirit of Hong Kong.”

Worked 8.5 weeks at SFO for 3-4 days each week all day. My break time was when CX departed and never saw the new livery once on the day flight. Will the 3 class jets see the new livery?

That's what I mean. Therefore the repaint process looks slow because those 772 and some 77W will never be repainted.

I said before the outgoing planes are 772 and 77W not 773

I know what you said - and I was agreeing with you in answering “na”’s reply to you regarding the straight -300s.

The 3 class planes are the newer ones so it will be a little while yet before they're painted however SFO gets both 3 and 4 class 77Ws.

Paying $80+ per barrel of fuel until 2019 takes away a lot of extra money you might have for branding. But someone got rich off this branding campaign like someone got rich off CX fuel hedging. Time will tell if the airline survives long enough to repaint the fleet.
