A380 liveries

Sun Aug 27, 2017 8:09 am

Hey guys,
Just thinking out aloud.... A trivial question.
Am I correct that Qantas will be the first airline to change livery on the A380 since taking delivery of them, or in other words, the first airline to change the livery that the A380s were delivered in?
I know some airlines changed livery FOR the introduction of the A380, but Qantas is I think the first to change livery AFTER delivery of the A380...
Naturally, I don't include special schemes such as SG50 or the Emirates wildlife series....
Thanks,
Bunumuring

It was a minor change, but Singapore updated the position of the titles on their A380s after 9V-SKA (which was also then updated):

I believe I read on QANTAS' Facebook that they are currently updating the interiors in the A380s. Is the livery being updated at the same time?

EY's was introduced on the A380, not after.

That depends on where both the refurbs and repaints will be done. Currently maintenance is done in MNL though repaints could be done in SIN or XMN. Also with refurbs not being started until Q2 2019 we may see repaints start next year

Both those liveries were created for the A380 joining their respective fleets. I think the OP is meaning airlines that have changed or modified schemes since operating the A380 ?

Another minor detail, but the gold keris logo was originally featured on the outside of each engine cowling, as was the case with the whole fleet until the livery refresh.

Qantas have only really tweaked their livery in recent years, same goes for Air France. Of all the current A380 operators, both British Airways and Lufthansa are long overdue a livery reboot.

Are they? The Lufthansa livery still looks crisp and professional to me. BA have subtly updated the livery over the years. It's now an "ice white" and the Heraldic Crest has been added. If the Iberia livery is an indication of what BA might get, I think it's best off left alone.

Subtle updates do not for a new livery make IMHO. BA have used the same basic livery going back to the Utopia tails launch in 1997, the Chatham tail of course existed only in Concorde at that point. Compared to the lifespan of previous liveries, Negus (1973-1984) and Landor (1984-1997) they are certainly overdue a major relaunch in livery terms. It's all a matter of opinion of course but for me the Newell & Sorrell design is starting to show it's age. I agree though that whilst IAG are running things, it might be best left alone for a while yet... ;-) As for Lufthansa, how long have they had that now ? Entire aircraft types have been introduced and retired in that livery !
