At almost 4200 miles that is a bit far for a 757. IND is almost 300 miles farther than PIT-CDG which DL currently operates a 757 on and is one of the longest 757 routes

Question for IND folks: I don't know why they wouldn't be, but which (if any) of the A-gates in IND are ready to handle widebody aircraft, such as the 763?

A great win for Indy, finally getting their TATL. Delta to CDG is great for the city and good news for you Indy spotters and supporters. Am a little surprised there was no red white and blue balloons at the launch though, given that the DL colours and the France colours match :)

For me BA have been caught napping here. The Rust Belt is a huge area with 6 or 7 large metros, plus multiple other sizeable cities, yet BA don't serve even one of them. And now only CMH is left without a TATL nonstop. Well famous last words as CMH has long been my predicted BA destination in this region...

All this said, there's plenty of scope for London service on top of what these cities already have, especially as London is still unserved from this region, and many of the new flights are effectively one stops on LCCs, many without service even to Continental Europe. This won't be the last route launch in the region in my view.

Interestingly enough it doesn't provide details of weekly frequencies in the Delta link. Does anyone know?

I suspect less than daily outside the summer. Still a possibility it could have more than its northern neighbor ORD on AF/KLM/DL. Wow.

I know the international gates can handle an A330. I've seen one there. I believe the gate is painted to allow an A380. At minimum a 747.

Interesting that IND already gets a deeper commitment than PIT. Show me the money!

Also interesting that the GOVERNOR shows up? Come on, this is the best thing he has to do with his time. Imagine if the governor of IL, TX, GA, or NY did the same every time there was major announcement to those states?

The governor was the one who pushed for the service the most and pushed the incentives through the Indiana State House, so without him this flight wouldn't be around. The city of Indy wasn't really involved with the flight.

So, I think it was only fitting that he was the one to make the announcement....

"To help support the new route and ensure its long-term success, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) has offered Delta Air Lines up to $5.5 million in conditional incentives over two years based on the company’s commitment to operate regularly-scheduled nonstop flights between the two airports. The incentives, which are subject to approval of the IEDC Board, will be awarded based on the number of passengers served by the route over the next two years, and, similar to other IEDC incentives, will not be awarded to the airline until service for passengers is provided."

Do we foresee them (Delta) taking over more ticketing space or just adding extra staff? There seems to be plenty of kiosks for Delta.

Paris will leave at 620.

So in that 2-2 1/2 hour window period before you have a 4 & 630 to Minneapolis, 545 to Detroit, 4 to RDU, 430 to JFk, 7 to LGA, and 445 to Atlanta, based on current schedules.

This is awesome news. The FIS gates I believe can support 763s as they have had them in the past (Super Bowl, military charters), etc. so don't think there will be much that needs to be done on that end. I was hoping for AMS myself, but I'll happily take CDG :)

Any chance that Kansas City will receive a TATL in the near future? First Nashville, then CVG, STL and now IND? MCI flew over 11 million passengers far more than IND and CVG let alone CMH. Seems silly to suggest CMH or even MKE but not Kansas City considering we're much farther from hub airports. What is causing airlines to avoid us? It cant be the airport since its mostly O&D traffic

Very nice add for you Indy folks! Kind of out of the blue, for me at least.

But there has been increasing chatter lately about DL flying to some of their key cities in Europe - Paris and Amsterdam - from non-US hubs so there we go!

This year and next are continuing to prove to be BIG as far as intercontinental expansion here in the US, along with great domestic growth!

Again, Congrats to IND and DL!

I was thinking SEA from IND too. Since the flights go on sale on Sat 23rd, I bet DL has other new routes that will be loaded then. I think the announcement was pushed forward since WW passed over IND.

If Chicago, or Dallas, or Houston, or Atlanta, or NYC got additional international flights, it wouldn't be a big deal. But this is a big deal for Indiana, and the governor is already in Indianapolis. What the heck is the problem?

It is possible that WW still comes. The governor gets $15 million a year to spend on economic development. The CDG route only uses $5.5 over two years. Not that I'm expecting it but the money appears to be available if needed. I don't think the IAA put a cap on the number of flights it would offer incentives for. I think the limit was only on carriers per route.

Exactly, look at other states without a large hub - the governor always shows up, as do a lot of other political leaders. Ridiculous criticism.

Indeed. That might be forthcoming. DL still has a ways to go, however, to match the operation NW had at IND before the merger. IND-PDX is another intriguing possibility.

It really is weird that DL would go with CDG out of IND when that flight already ran out of CVG. Just seems a different destination would have been good for both communities.

Congrats to IND.

But why are several people here saying it's just moving the ORD-CDG rotation down? I realize it's cute to think that but there's no real world relation at all. AF is now remaining at ORD during low season. And since ORD is not a SkyTeam hub, there's virtually no overlap here. No one in IND was connecting through ORD to fly SkyTeam to CDG. If anything this will take some connecting traffic away from UA and AA

Is Indy close enough to CVG or ORD that flyers would have previously driven for nonstop service to CDG or other European cities? If so then DL will cannibalize itself a bit to Cincy, but take away business from AA/UA/international flag carriers at ORD.

Delta's pricing strategy is obviously very different from the WOW's or Norwegian, I doubt they will price to stimulate the market, so taking share that would have driven to ORD for nonstop service will be a big deal.

By car Google Maps puts IND-CVG at 1:53, IND-ORD at 3:15, and IND-DTW at 4:24. There is a plain threat to cannibalizing CVG-CDG. But subsidy $$$ talks. We'll see what remains when subsidy money ends.
