No they dont. They currently fly ADD-ARN-OSL-ARN-ADD with full traffic rights on the ARN-OSL-ARN portion.

The change happened as of 26 March. ET initially switched that to ADD-VIE-MXP-VIE-ADD but as of 6 May changed it to ADD-VIE-BRU-VIE-ADD. The latter currently operates 4x week and will increase to 5x as of 12 December.

Why doesn't Ethopian Airlines fly to BRU, VIE, and MXP direct? BRU has always had a stop (previously CDG) and seems to have never been non-stop. I bet BRU has a lot of African demand to be non-stop.

I flew the ARN-VIE leg with them last year, in business on their 787, and it was a great experience. I can recommend ET, and would love to fly them again on a longer sector.

Several familiar reasons which are not foreign to smaller airline ops.
Obviously, running ADD-BRU plus ADD-VIE plus ADD-MXP requires three airplanes, minimum.
Making it multi-stop catches multiple birds with one stone, and reduces losses by flying a mostly empty airplane between Addis Ababa and Vienna, certainly not the globe's highest demand route.

That said, there's clearly a lot of demand for travel between Africa and BRU (and perhaps onward), as I'm convinced that this is the only market keeping Brussels Airlines alive.
I flew IAD-BRU on one of their ancient A330s, and it was an interesting experience, to say the least. And pretty miserable. Though the crew were nice and the food was good.

Any idea what kind of load factors they're having on the ARN-ADD route? I remember seeing one or two trip reports and it seemed like 25-35% full, if that. Can it really be profitable?

Demand from BRU to Africa is mostly to its western (francophone) part. For that ADD is a bad connecting point.

I already checked pax (not many but not few), flying from CDG to Lagos or Abuja, with Ethiopian. You leave CDG at 22h15-22h30 and you arrive at 12h in Nigeria. Thus, there are pax using Ethiopian to fly from Europe to some West Africans countries, such as Niger, Nigeria, Chad (Central Africa) or Benin. Almost the same times if you fly with Turkish Airlines (journey: btw 12h & 15h)

You forgot that DR Congo, Rwanda & Burundi are former Belgium Colonies. 3 Countries are located in Central and East Africa. Demand is also big.

Brussels Airlines ended code share agreements with Ethiopian Airlines on the BRU ADD, few years ago, probably beacuse, Ethiopian was "stealling" passengers, from Europe to Africa. Don't forget also, that Brussels Airlines European and USA network feed Ethiopian Bru ADD service

Demand from CDG is bigger. Lots of connection to Kinshasa, Brazzaville, Douala, Libreville, Seychelles, Nairobi, Zanzibar and now Moroni and Antananarivo. Ethiopian sends its B777

The lack of non-stop flights might also have to do with the ET schedule and its bank where it is critical to arrive early morning in ADD for connections. If planes didn't go further in Europe, they would just sit around on the tarmac for hours like the one in FRA because it is too early to return to ADD with relatively short sectors

Yes, ET has full traffic rights on the ARN-OSL and OSL-ARN sectors. A few weeks ago I flew with them on OSL-ARN for about 50EUR.

Try booking through a OTA such as momondo, kayak etc.

Yes it is, found it on Kayak. For a random date in April $174 r/t price is right between SAS and Norwegian for the given date,

What is miserable about Brussels Airlines.

Ancient? The cabin has been refurbished throughout. It is pretty much spotless and clean. Seats are good, ptv decent with decently sized screens (though movie selection is poor), what exactly is bugging you is beyond me.

Truth is, there is decent demand from Bru to Africa, but the flights are not sustainable without feed from the african and american network. Filling a 787 from bru day in day out would be impossible, especially since there are other carriers competing with one stop connections. (Ram for example, and to a lesser extend the other North African carriers)

You can also book the ET flights via SAS.
