Hawaiian Airlines to expand AKL service

Sun Sep 17, 2017 11:02 pm

Hawaiian announced today that they will further expand their existing 3x week HNL-AKL service with up to 5 flights a week beginning in March 2018 on their A330-200 aircraft.

Great to see HA expanding on their current routes as they receive more aircraft to complement their existing fleet.

What market does this flight serve, the Hawaii-NZ market, or connections to the USA beyond Hawaii?

Smart movie really considering that both UA and AA will be offline during the winter months from March onwards. This displaced capacity will be picked up by Hawainn Airlines to some extent. Hopefuly they will go daily in the not too distant future.

It is interesting that HA is now starting its foray as a TPAC connection carrier beyond its current inter-island network. Many have theorized that HA would refrain from offering connections and focus strictly on to/from Hawaii.

I personally think this is a smart move which will hopefully catch on with the other SPAC markets they serve. HA's formula works well as is but offering connections seems a very low risk way to diversify a bit.

Does HA have any more 330s to be delivered? Will the 321NEO shift some 330 capacity to long haul.

Seems like the have played their niche perfectly, and developed a strong market. Certainly a well run airline!

You have been able to go from JFK-HNL-AKL or LAX-HNL-AKL for years. Best part is Hawaiian allows an open end on return to take a couple days in Hawaii.

Very smart, they can really play the "icelandair/wow" role in the Pacific, with right acfts

Hawaiian has their last A330 to be delivered in the next few weeks. This will bring the total fleet of A330's HA has to 24. HA has 18 A321neos on order and with the delivery of the 321's this should allow HA in the future to expand to new markets, replace the 767 fleet as well as free up existing A330's for redeployment.

Awesome! Thank you - love to see them in MEL one day.

Just a shame baggage has to be cleared at the first point of entry into the US; otherwise HA would be far more competitive connecting the pacific.

24 is a far bigger fleet than I realised! Impressive - and how many 767 do they plan on keeping? Feels like yesterday they received their first 330!

No kidding on baggage.
