Air Canada's Mumbai and Dubai route will be served by 777 for winter.

Wed Sep 27, 2017 5:45 am

Looks like Air Canada will temporarily use the extra capacity of a 777 for its direct service from YYZ to both its Mumbai and Dubai routes this coming winter.

Looking at the reservation website... Equipment change from 787 looks to begin end of October.

2 seats extra on a 77L vs a 787-9. Not a material change

Cargo uplift is a different matter.

Well 10 more J seats and 3 more premium Y. Assuming this was done for non technical or fleet reasons, could mean there is stronger premium demand to both DXB and BOM (winter is peak time for NA-DXB/BOM). If so could for them. I feel like Canada to India was never seen as a premium business route like USA-India. But times change. Good for them.

BOM has a relatively short runway, so takeoff with B789 may be difficult in winter (due to longer flight time). I don't know why DXB is being switched as well, though

Toronto - Hong Kong is being upgauged to 77W service. The 77L usually assigned to Toronto - Hong Kong is being re-assigned to the Mumbai and Dubai routes.

DXB has been operated with the 77W in the past as well, maybe the premium cabin does well on this route. The 787 only has 30 J seats while the 777s have 40.

I'm not sure about that. 09/27 has 12'008ft available for takeoff (including displaced threshold), and doesn't really have any quick climb requirements (at least as per the SID).
