If that's the new blue, It would look better if the engine nacelles were also blue IMHO

Oh god I hope not, looks very tasteless and LCC, almost identical to that Joon crap at AF, but the cost cutting bonanza continues, after all, passengers dont care if the plane is marked or not

I'm sincerely hoping this is not the new livery. One of the most timeless and classic brands would be ruined IMHO. I'm all for minimalist and modern clean lines, but this is just way too generic. Unfortunately, this matches very closely to what an inside source has told me it would look like - but here's to still holding out hope for something better (with at least a touch of the class LH yellow).

Can’t be. That’s a carbon copy of Joon, with the crane logo and Lufthansa titles slapped on.

To make the livery contemporary and modern and the re-paints cheaper. I like this concept from Brazil, simple and cost optimized.

I think this was meant to be cynical... the picture actually fits very well to the description provided by the LH cargo pilot further above...

If this is true, I’ll definitely miss the old LH livery and I know I won’t be alone. I always liked landing at FRA and seeing dozens of those familiar tails. I grew up in New York, but spent every summer as a kid with my grandmother a half hour away from FRA. I think for a lot of people, especially Germans and those with strong connections with Germany, seeing those tails in foreign airports was comforting.

Lets start a petition or something, this cant be true it's like an awful nightmare. The current LH livery is imo the best Livery out there. Its recognizable, you can see the blue tail with the yellow circle from miles away and know instinctivly what airline it ist. It also looks perfect, classic and not cheap. No font over the windows, the tailcolor is not continuing on the belly etc. Just the perfect livery. Now they start their s*** with five stars and ruin everything. They are dazed from all the success lately, otherwise they wouldnt have come to such an idea. Think of it, a silver crane instead of the blue yellow tail!!! What is this? Why would you do that? Oh because five stars and premium customers, are they out of their minds? Would you still recognize this livery as the old one? No because it will disapper under the many same looking designs. I wish i could do anything about it, like going to CS and tell him, but he probably wouldnt care anyways. So maybe a petition, has anyone other ideas?

If you have gold as your established logo colour how can you step back to silver? That's just second class. No more first? Big mistake I'd say.

I am sure they made some surveys, interviews etc. before the management approved the new livery and maybe they received similar answers...

While the supposed new livery is certainly not the most exciting, I'm surprised at how much people are getting their knickers in a twist about this. Come on, I know most on here are aviation fans, but let's get real.
An airline has the job to make money. Do you think that shareholders, and employees for that matter, would be happy for the company to loose money (or earn less) just because the planes have a fancy livery? This is a business not a beauty pageant!

Well not really getting knickers in a twist if you ask me ... might be an interpretation but it does imho reach far beyond that - the livery should be (at best) the culmination/the essence of what your firm defines as its corporate identity

To match what the cabin interiors look like. LH has been doing this on it rear bulkheads (at least on short-haul aircraft) for a while already.

LH IS updating its livery and will be losing the yellow from the tail but the blue will extend over rear fuselage Qantas style.

Well my view is a little different to many of you above. As while I welcome the addition of silver to evolve the livery, it should not replace the yellow.

Instead, a larger tail crane would ideal, perhaps as an outline rather than block colour on the tail, like in the “Orca” render above.

They could then add a silver or grey accent to the trims of the tail blue à la QF, which would look good reaching further into the fuselage, perhaps with some wavy stripes.

I’d then have larger titles in a different typeface, perhaps in billboard format. Underneath I’d display a large crane logo, perhaps with added Lufthansa titles. Engines would be dark blue with the crane logo.

Another version would be to evolve the yellow to gold. Either that or introduce gold into the livery, side by side with yellow, as Star partner SQ do.

Thoughts on that everyone? Would anyone like to try and create that vision in Photoshop?

Well, yes, objectively it's a bit boring; it's certainly not the new AA livery (which I like). But then again, Lufthansa's current livery is boring -- the airline wants to evoke an "old faithful" kind of feeling -- and this is really just a refresh of the current livery. It's not *that* different. Judged in that context, I certainly don't think it's outrageous, and I like the contrast of the silver logo on the tail. Personally, I might prefer an oversize logo and a trim of yellow somewhere, perhaps on the engines, but that's quibbling. Lufthansa was never going to adopt an exciting, avant-garde livery.

...and the more I think about it, the more I see why they may be ditching the yellow. Yellow is an "excitement" color; that's not what they want to convey. And I don't inherently think "Lufthansa" when I see yellow. Blue and yellow make me think of SQ, or maybe Jet Airways. Offhand, I (surprisingly) can't think of another airline that uses a Dallas Cowboys-esque dark blue and silver. Lufthansa may want to own that, especially judging by their new cabins.

The Qantas-style tail at least means this isn't a full Eurowhite; I think that's about the best we can expect from LH.

The Silver-Blue may be more premium, decent or modest. But as for recognition, you won't see the details of a white/silver crane on blue ground from a bit more far away or aou of the corner of your eye and immediatley know that this is Lufthansa. With their current livery that is the case.

The rumoured Brazilian scheme looks quite similar to the new branding in the lounges and on the new business class picture LH put out a few weeks ago.

Wouldn't be surprised if the new livery is very similar to that.

I hope the Brazilian livery doesn't hold true. The yellow element on the tail is much too iconic to be shelved like that. I'm all in favour of modernising liveries from time to time but this should be done carefully and with a focus on introducing some unique, distinguishable features (like OS's "Servus" lettering for instance).

That brazilian livery looks like someone took the one from Joon, slapped a Kranich on the tail and called it a day. Something like the Kranich on the engine nacelles or some carefully placed specks of colour on the Eurowhite would add some uniqueness to the design - as of now, it's just bland.

Looks similar to the airbus prototype livery. I hope that's not the new CI. I heard the are going to make the Main brand more similar to the group brands but that is definitly one step to far. At the moment you can spot an lh planet within a nano second on the apron. With this 'weichgespülten' design an iconic brand would be destroyed.

OH GOD please no.
I really don't care if the yellow dissapears. But I could very much imagine the logo in a silverish style (unlike the white, which is posted a couple of comments earlier, from the promo video).
BUT extending the blue to the lower fuselage - that's a no go.

I don't like this too much. If they do want to replace their old livery, why not trying something like the livery suggested by → Boeing778X on page 1 of this thread, but removing the interrupted circle?

For the circle was introduced no sooner than 1962 (and the employees didn't like it at all then - they thought the crane would look like it was locked up in the circle, deprived of its freedom and unable to fly):

Interesting that at the end of that video, the designer explains that he cannot imagine that Lufthansa would abandon any of the core elements of the design in the coming years. He specifically mentions the Crane, the Typeface and the primary colors of Yellow and Blue.

Perhaps the new livery is the first step in beginning to unify the brand images of all their airlines (ie LX would have same basic livery, just with red and the white cross etc)?

It's literally all about blue and yellow. I could understand a move to a more "business" or "executive" design to distinguish the "premium" Lufthansa brand from the "cheap" Eurowings/Germanwings/whateverelse by using "platinum" or "silver" and blue. It would, however, be weird to have a yellow-free livery and cabin while maintaining a yellow-rich online presence

Please not, those black radomes are so old-fashioned and out of date.

The reason they were black in those days was because back then there was no suitable white paint for it. Under the radome is a radar and somehow the regular white paint disturbed the radar function, so it had to be black. Later on a white paint was developed that didn't disturb the radar and that meant the end of the ugly black radome.

Yes, some similarities apply... :D

But then - it proves that the design isn't too bad, doesn't it? 8-)

New designt on a Boeing 747-8 will be presented aprox. in three weeks from now on. 100 years Lufthansa.

I doubt the rendering in that blog is anything more than guesswork based on rumours and gossip already circulating. That said it could work nicely with the addition of a nice subtle yellow under belly and pearlescent finish elsewhere. I guess the great rush to 'lessor friendly' painted tail/eurowhite fuselage fleets is upon us though...

The color palette presented there implies that the yellow will stay. However, since the article has no date attached to it, I am not sure if it might have been from the A350 introduction.
