While I like the current (I think perhaps slightly violet?) blue, I think a subdued darker and cooler tone would look more contemporary and suit the aesthetics that Lutfthansa seems to be leaning towards with their recent cabin colour palette.
Looking forward to seeing what they have come up with.

Please, just no. The new QF logotype is hateful and an attempt to stylise what Lufthansa have now is like walking that exact same road but now it has huge potholes and also landmines.

No matter what, users on this forum are going to dislike LH’s new livery. People have to adjust—the question is how this is going to look on a smoggy afternoon in LAX or PEK in two years. Given LH’s attention to their brand, I think they know what they’re doing, and the tail mock-up that was just posted actually looks pretty good despite my initial worries.

For reference, I thought CX’s rebrand was awful for leaving out red, but I’ve gotten used to it now. Same thing will happen with LH and yellow if they choose to leave it out. Then makes me wonder what happens to crew uniforms given the prominence of gold. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them announce a new uniform, or uniform updates, when they unveil their new livery.

Maybe they'll be adding the 5 stars on the tail, just like on this uniform pin

I would love the circle if it was offset like TK or AV rouge. Keeping the circle the way it is is just not contemporary.

If you zoom in very closely, it appears as though you can see the four lines which form the wing of the crane, the body below and the outline of a circle. If that is indeed the case, the crane appears to be quite small and placed quite low down on the vertical stabilizer. The color which can be seen on the tail also looks quite dark indeed.

If the crane really is there (and nothing else but pure blue on the tail), this is gonna be completely inbalanced! Will look awful IMHO!

If you look at what seems to be a covered winglet that pops up on the other side there seems to be a splash of yellow at the top where the underside is exposed. Also the blue on the tail along the exposed “line” seems to get more greyish as you go up towards the top. I wonder if the colour degrades or actually evolves into grey/silver the higher it gets. That being said the square patch, if it’s the tail exposed, is the same colour as what we see around the logo.

Change for the sake of change is just ridiculous. There is NO reason for this; the LH livery is about as close to timeless a livery as we have left these days.

The dark blue-grey combined with the silver look very classy. The logo is not ridiculously stretched all the way to the edges, or offset which i think is just a short-lived design trend. And i would love it if they keep the crane like that.

That would be a refinement that is bold and modern but with a lot of respect to it's heritage. No desperate attempt to be noticed, but a calm and confident advancement. Very exciting

If it's really that darker blue and the silver crane as shown on the A350 rendering I've got to say, I acctually quite like it. Provided they didn't go for that Joon-livery for the rest of the aircraft.
On the actual A350 picture it's also visible that the new crane design will probably adjust the cranes wings a little. It looks like the four stripes are now in line with the cranes tail. Also the lines appear to be thinner compared to the old design.
Something else is notable when you compare it to the Thai aircraft: obviously the lower part of the leading edge could have been painted in what ever color Lufthansa would like to. While the upper part has to be silver (I guess for the de-icing system) the lower part on the Thai aircraft is painted in the same color as the rest of the tail, while on the LH aircraft it's also silver (slightly different from the upper part though). Maybe that's a give-away of how the livery will extend down onto the fuselage?

I think it would be really sad if LH got rid of the yellow altogether. LH yellow has become extremely iconic, unlike combinations of white and blue. It would be the first LH livery since its foundation without any yellow.

It is clearly the crane encircled. Top white line top of the circle, followed (going down) by 4 white lines right next to each other which are the four feathers in the crane wing, another line from the tail of the crane, then another white line being the bottom of the circle.

I just realise that there is a major mistake in that rendering. Look at the head of the crane. It would be on the top of the fuselage.

Furthermore, I very much doubt they would put the letters between the windows (would be very un-German...).

As per "CoolerName" on airliners.de, D-ABYA will be ferried back to FRA all white & with the livery hidden.
Probably some kind of stickers to hide it.

That makes me guess that there will be no big changes on the fuselage. Would be much effort to cover the whole tail (something like the Joon style) with stickers. Bet also, they will ferry it in the middle of the night!

I think LH526 has it right. That looks to be the new tail logo when comparing it with the tail photo with the gap showing the partial LH logo. Now I wonder what the rest of the aircraft will look like. Maybe just a different type of letter font in larger format on the all-white fuselage?

Sorry, but as a LH fan and former employee, I find this unimaginative, uninspiring, boring, and frankly too conservative. A smaller, silver crane sitting lower on the tail, a darker blue (almost black) background, and boring white everywhere else. Yawn.

So basically a Cathay style of revised livery. Not that bad, I like the silver crane and the dark background. Still waiting to see the entire thing though.

You might be right that livery doesn't matter in and of itself. However branding matters a lot. A distinctive and striking brand can create a lasting impression, often a very positive one. And the biggest canvas available is the aircraft itself, so airline branding necessarily starts and ends there. So I think you are wrong. Also, big airlines spend tens of millions of dollars just coming up with a new livery, so it must be important.
