Great news to economically strong mid-American cities. DSM is my main point of interest. SAT is the largest city (hence the mainline). These are all important mid-size business cities that will benefit AA's northeast/Atlantic network..

Interesting fact about DSM-East is that DL has 1 CR9 daily to LGA a monopoly route ($$$) while AA has a 1x daily monopoly from DSM to DCA, this time on CR7. Something to watch.

I also just remembered the F9 announced PHL-MSN/OMA last Tuesday and already operates SAT-PHL seasonally. AA continues to defend their hubs from the ULCCs.

I had always heard that F9, NK, and G4 just generated traffic that wouldn't have flown had it not been for the low fare - and wasn't a threat to the legacies. Apparently AA doesn't see it that way.

Wow, I was wondering if this might happen given the F9 PHL announcement last week! This is great news for all those small cities!

These are some VERY good schedules! The OMA-PHL flight is about 30 minutes too early, otherwise all the other times are perfect for many reasons!

Glad to see DSM added! Now will this impact PHL-DSM as a potential seasonal F9 route?

Also, per the PHL announcement, looks like as of March 25 AA will upgrade one of its daily flights to LAX to a 332 (not sure what it is being upgraded from).

321. All 6 PHL-LAX flights are 321's.

Will PHL-SFO still have a 332 rotation or are they just moving it over to LAX?

I think these are mostly to combat F9 rather than building up the hub for the new TA flights.

Nice! I think AA will beat F9 (or at least hold their own) on PHL-MSN, with all the various connecting opportunities at PHL onwards to Europe and the Northeast. I'm glad their utilizing large RJs rather than CR2s! Overall, these four stations were definitely some of the most glaring gaps in AA's network from PHL.
This is my signature until I think of a better one.

Does this mean an upgauge from the 2x E190 service on PHL-AUS to an A319?

Don't know, but I'd rather two options on an E190 than one option on a 319.

PHL is on a roll the past two months, first AA to ZRH, BUD and PRG. Then F9 to CHS, JAX, MEM, OMA, MSN. EI announces service today and now this on AA. Keep it up, hope to see more adds from AA.

I wonder if this will lead to F9 dropping the PHL-MSN route. In the original thread about F9 operating the route a poster listed the PDEW numbers between PHL and MSN and they were certainly not enough to fill a HD 320. Even if a nonstop stimulates the market it probably would not be enough to reliably fill a 320. AA E175 sounds like the right sized aircraft. Plus MSN users get the added benefit of onward Europe connections on AA from PHL. Great to see service expanded at MSN. Worked there in college.

Great adds. As others have speculated, I suspect we'll see some F9 flights disappear.

Nice add for SAT. US Airways had E190 service between the two previously.

Would have been nice to see OKC get a flight or two to PHL. With UA making their EWR flight seasonal, might've been an opportunity for AA to pick up some international connections. Guess the good people of OKC will continue to have to go through DFW and CLT and wait for F9 to try OKC-PHL.

Yea, the PHL-MSN PDEW numbers were somewhere in the 40-60 range. If F9 actually starts PHL-MSN, I don't see it lasting past one season.

PHL-SAT should be able to support both carriers
Q3 2016 PDEW PHL-SAT - 177

PHL-OMA might be another one that doesn't last on F9.
Q3 2016 PDEW PHL-OMA - 58

International expansion/frequency increases from PHL has just started, including the new Shamrock.
Last PHL-SFO 332 is 3 March 2018.

OKC definitely is the next midwestern hole that needs to be filled at PHL. At this point I don't know who is more likely to be the first to give it a go between F9 and AA, however both seem like options at this point. However, if F9 is going to add OKC, it is likely to launch in the spring. Also, if F9 gets there first, then we are more likely to see two carriers on the route (at least initially until F9 drops it after a season or two). But if AA is first, perhaps F9 won't give it a go.

It will be interesting to watch how DSM goes as it is a F9 station but AA is getting on the route first.

AA is much bigger at DSM than F9 and the market isn’t big enough to support 2 carriers so I highly doubt F9 would start DSM-PHL. AA’s flights are also well timed for connections on the PHL end while F9 would rely solely on O&D.

Awesome news-This PHL service for MSN makes a lot more sense for us given all the connection opportunities (compared to F9)

Eh, the PHL-SAT-PHL timing is good for O&D travelers and domestic connections, but terrible for TA connections. Creates 4+ hour international connections

Same can be said of the MSN flights.
Looks like it takes a double daily rotation to make PHL a suitable bidrectional connecting point for their TA network.
