Looking forward to it!

are the performances, for any a/c, same as prediction models or the delta could be big? (much better/ much worse) ... historically I mean. Could in theory the a330neo do much better than forecasted? did 787 and a350 did better/worse?

The 787/A350 did better than forecasted when it came to aerodynamics. As the A330neo is only a refresh of the A330ceo though I would not expect any major surprises (good or bad) versus what is predicted. It will largely depend on the engines, but because they are basically bleed air versions of the Trent 1000 Ten that will be on the 787 any performance differences between the two planes will likely stay relatively constant vs predicted.

I'm excited. Let's hope it gets in the air soon.

In general the forecasts usually are pretty close for derivatives. What is different is the performance guarantees and how conservative they are. When there is risk that an engine/airframe may not perform, the performance guarantees are lower. When the guarantees are lower, Airbus usually can't obtain as high of a purchase price for the airplane. Fuel burn advantage over the A330ceo and how close it is to the 787 based on guarantees drives what price the airlines are paying for the airplane. Airbus has the goal to have the performance guarantees as close to forecasts as possible to help sell the airplane and get the highest purchase price. With the Trent 7000 being essentially a derivative from the Trent 1000, there shouldn't be huge engine surprises. Back in 2003/2004 the GE90-115 was a high risk program being the most powerful commercial engine so performance guarantees had a lot of conservatism in them. The Trent 7000 isn't that much of a technological leap from existing engines, so I wouldn't expect guarantees to have as much conservatism in them and I would expect performance estimates should be quite accurate.

Thanks for för the explanations! With the super computers and all modelling, I guess the reality will more and more close the gaps with theory...

The article says the A330 series is the most-flown widebody aircraft in the world. Is that true?

Most-flown in what regard? Number of aircraft in use; number of passengers flown?

Broadcast starts at 10:00 AM CET.

From the Airbus press release. "Follow live coverage of the A330neo first flight on Twitter and Facebook on October 19* with the hashtag #A330neoFF, starting at approximately 10 a.m. CET, 8 a.m. GMT"

Good morning, Europe. No real live video again. Same as A350-1000 FF. Really Disappointing or am I missing something.

Well.. it's not even 8AM yet over here. Or are you pointing at this from Airbus:

Yes I did.
I was trying to figure out, if I'll have to bring my laptop to work today. For twitter the phone would be enough.

I wonder if they'll put other aircraft in the air with it for a photo op... A350, A320, C Series?

Great job, and congratulations to AB for finally getting the bird off the ground!

However, these wingtips will take some getting used to. Weird looking contraptions, these are.

Yes, congrats Airbus.

I agree about the wingtips - they don't look as nice as those on the A350. I'm sure we'll get used to them.

That was quick, but I guess we shouldn't be too surprised. The 330neo really isn't so different from the 330ceo, so there is a lot of knowledge that Airbus will have already.

After take off, I saw they did not immediately raise the landing gear. Did they eventually do it, before climbing to FL300 ?

The wingtips do look very strange.

Beautiful bird, nonetheless.

Engines are huge! Looks very 777 GE90.

Yes the wing extension+blended wingtips do look a little strange. The question of course is -how effective? But will have been extensively wind tunnel/computer tested. If these extensions do work well I wonder if they could scale them for an A320 wing extension....

I think that it is standard on first flights not to raise the landing gear immediately. It will have been raised before they went high.

Finally! The maiden flight of the A350 mk.I :hyper:

No, I'm just kidding! I dunno, the wingtips are more of a raked tip than a winglet, but it looks good from some angles. Larger engines help improve the look too!

Congrats to Airbus! This week has been making them giggle!

It's because the end of the wings are raked like some Boeing products. Gives it very different look with the blended winglet.

More Mark0.5 ;) No new wing!
They have 210 orders so far. Quite a few of them not 100% certain. In my very humble opinion they could be 3-5 years late. Maybe 2010 was even possible. But I don‘t want to kidnap the thread. This was discussed A LOT on a.net :)

I totally agree with what you say about the winglets.
