Very pretty airplane. The subtle changes to the livery works well on the A321.

There are things i like and things i don't like about this livery. Glad they kept PUALANI...and love the wrap around lei feature. But why did they update the font so radically? The other font was better as it was a heavier weight and looked better on the fuselage (up close and from a distance). You see it from far away.

Still, one of the best liveries in the sky! Mahalo!

Mixed feelings about this - happy HA is getting a highly efficient new aircraft and the tweaked livery looks fantastic.
Concerned that it may eventually mean they replace the A330 from SEA/HNL with the 321NEO. Even though I am an AS mileage plan member and could go non-stop SEA-LIH on AS, I always choose HA SEA/HNL/LIH to avoid the dreaded single-aisle sardine can for the six hour plus flight.

I think you have got something mixed up there. Frontier and Spirit have the A320neo not the A321neo. As far as I can tell neither have it on order but maybe through a lessor? Not really sure on that. Frontier by the way is one of the few airlines that still have the A319neo on order.

Besides Virgin America, ANA, SriLankan and Novair there is also WOW and Avianca. WOW A321neo was delivered in June and Avianca has 2 flying (one delivered in September and one in October)

I would bet on it. I believe the predominant West Coast strategy will be to use 321s to compete on frequency and non-stops to non-HNL airports instead of the 332's CASM vs. AS 738s.

Unless the DC9s way back when were bought new from McDonnell Douglas, is this the first brand new, from the factory aircraft HA has acquired?

Good news for HA, not to mention no combustor or seal worries thanks to long missions. :duck:.

You can read my posts from years ago and Pratt that the fuel burn was met. Note:. I do not work for Pratt, I didn't work on the PW1100G,. I did work several generation prior GTF proposals that even included one based on the PW6000... :old:

I'm exited as this is a fixed ETOPS PW1132G! :hyper:

But man has it been tough being a.net's most vocal Pratt fan. Tough since early 2015...

A330 fleets are all factory delivered. Some 767 also came straight from PAE, and some 717s from LGB as well.

So no the majority of their fleet is actually factory acquired.

I'm with you on that one. The new livery is great and 100% better than most of the other "new" liveries that come out these days, but I just don't care for that font. The old font was so much more visible and impactful. The new font seems light and out of place with the detail and weight of the imagery on the tail.

A small gripe in the grand scheme of things!

321neos are NOT replacing all widebody west coast operations. They will replace select markets where the 321 can better match capacity vs. demand and offer new opportunities, for example splitting PDX into two flights on the 321 to HNL and OGG. They'll also allow for expansion and/or right sizing the neighbor island-west coast markets and allow added frequencies to current markets where adding a 330 would be too much. I dare say we'll still see 330s to the big cities and where there is cargo demand and especially to HNL. I think we will see SEA, LAX, LAS, SFO all continue to be 330.

The first several 321 flights have been announced and with lots of deliveries in 2018, I'm guessing we'll hear more shortly. Lots of creativity awaits for the network, with the costs and flexibility this new plane allows.

Did HA opt for bulk loading or LD3s? Very beautiful livery on this 321. Not sure if there is another livery in the world that looks more stunning on an A321.

LD3-45s could be used but I would expect Hawaiian to bulk load. Cargo is important to them and more volume can be bulk loaded than with containers. Cargo is also a reason for not ordering the A321LR since the fuel tanks eat up cargo space even though it could allow them to penetrate further into the mainland than the standard A321LR.

Since the company was established in about 1929 by the old Interisland Steam Ship Company, most of Hawaiian's aircraft were acquired new from the factory, including their DC3's, Convair 340's, DC9's (all series they've flown), Boeing 767's, and Airbus A332's. They've also used a variety of used equipment, including their Viscounts, DC6B's, DC8's, L1011's, etc

Could someone in the know please share the planned delivery sked of the new 321 fleet to HA? Plus the total number of 321s in the fleet when all current orders have been delivered? I'm curious how the route map could change over the next few years.

SNA is too short for the A321NEO. However, I couldn't find the takeoff weight versus runway length charts for the certified engines. Does anyone have a link to those charts?

I would expect lower demand markets with decent runway lengths. Since HA talked about DEN early on, easily within the A321NEO range as fuel burn targets were exceeded.
But more likely, is a direct flight from (in the order I would guess):
1. LAX (to practice, or SAN due to maintenance availability
2. LAS
3. DEN
4. SLC

HA will also up frequency. I will be surprised if at least one widebody route doesn't become all A321 (with more frequency).

Late edit, I left my window open and missed this link, Thanks KarelXWB!
viewtopic.php?t=1369253

Opening existing cities to OGG makes sense too. :) But I think my above list will see the NEO, albeit maybe not LAX if PDX starts first.

It was just pushed off Gate 30 at JFK T5 and will spend the night parked at the B6 terminal. I have pictures taken from a nearby car park that I’ll upload to my Flickr later. It will probably be the first and last time I see an HA A21N here in NYC.
