Confirmed: Egypt Air to order 12 C300 Series aircraft

Sat Oct 28, 2017 3:32 pm

Source: https://dailynewsegypt.com/2017/10/22/e ... -aircraft/

As reported in Cairo print media, Egypt Air subsidiary ie Egypt Air Express is looking to dispose off its entire E70 fleet which currently number 12 units by replacing them with the Bombardier C300 series.

Hopefully this ends up becoming official soon.

They also reported about them getting SSJ's, I even remember they were going to trade off the E-jets as part of the deal, so I wouldn't give much credence to anything coming from Egypt:

Not to be disrespectful, I'll believe it after the Bombardier announcement as Wayfarer515 aludes, Egypt has a history of announcements that do not happen. However, the SSJ support is not living up to promise, so that deal would make no sense.

Bummer for Embraer, but the relative economics of the E1-jets is poor compared to the NEO, MAX, and C-series. Once over 20% of the narrowbody fleet is the new types, expect to see an acceleration of retirements. :(

Embraer needs to counter with an E2-190/195 offer. Twelve orders for those frames would make a difference. However, would they really go from E70 to CS300? That is quite a shift in gauge.

The Embraers were acquired to allow for a more flexible operation. Previously most domestic runs were done by mainline MS in the early a.m (or middle of the night) in order to allow the aircraft to operate internationally from CAI in the morning. They have also been deployed internationally, to LCA, BEY (from HBE) and even to VIE and BUD from CAI. MS has a weak presence outside of CAI, and the E70 could have done a lot more with them.

The CSeries order may form part of a planned order by Egyptair for 6 B789's and 15 A320neo family aircraft that was revealed by the Minister of Aviation two weeks ago and an announcement is planned for the Dubai Air Show next month, it was mentioned that an order for some 33-39 aircraft will be revealed soon and the above types were specifically mentioned as well as a replacement for the E70's, I wish its the CSeries

I've always found the MS Express E-jets to be a real pleasure to fly, on domestic services, but times change I guess, as do economics.

Bearing in mind that I've never seen anything but, near, fully occupied flights on the Embraers, but that A320 or 737 variants would probably be too large for using for 1 - 2 hour domestic flights, the C Series probably makes a lot of sense (sorry, spell check won't let me enter C Series correctly, even after instructing that it be added to the dictionary).

Just hope they keep the current MS Express livery.

Yes, I'd heard that. Glad to see Bombardier getting a new order and I agree with GlenP, re the MS Express livery; they would look superb!

Odd that they are ordering Neos when they are still (to this week!) taking delivery of 738s, but no doubt politics will have a role to play in this order. The 787 seems a very good fit for MS and I can see 787-10s in their future, once the A333s come up for replacement. Presumably the -9s will replace the A330-200s.

As you said, politics play a part in the fleet orders of MS unfortunately, but at least now the numbers involved make some sense, having 28 B738's and 15 A320neos, earlier they ordered 3 B772's and 3 A342's, that was real nonsense, I can see the A359 coming later on when the A333 are retired.

Yes I agree that upgauging from E70 to CS3 is a bit too much as I also thought that the CS1 would be a better fit. Probably MS realized that the residual value of the CS3 down the road plus its higher capacity would come in handy down the road ?

I don't understand why they are ordering A320neo when they have B738s already as the A321neo is more required by them.

MS has a history of operating both A and B.
Personally, would love to see them operate the A350. Wouldn't rule it out either.
Ideally, they need a long haul aircraft that can be profitably deployed on short/medium haul routes. Virtually all off the GCC cities (except for maybe MCT) get widebody flights.
Don't know what MS is thinking going for 12 C300s as they're basically double the capacity. Even the CS100 is a significant upgrade in capacity.

As I said, earlier, despite the drop in tourism; slowly recovering, all the domestic flights I've taken on MS Express have been full in recent years, but the 2 flights on mainline, 738 and A320, in August between Cairo and Luxor were not 100% sold.

Perhaps they're looking to pull all the larger, mainline, aircraft off domestic routes but allow for the reasonably healthy loads by buying in equipment that is between the E170's and the A320s?

EgyptAir Holding has settled on the C-Series to replace its EgyptAir Express unit's fleet of twelve EMB-170s, reports ch-aviation.

Quoting unnamed airline sources, a report claims the Egyptian carrier group has committed to twelve CS300s. It did not reveal if the jets would be acquired direct from Bombardier or via a third party lessor.

EgyptAir Express is planning to dispose of its twelve Embraer Regional Jets during 2018/19 as part of a larger fleet renewal plan that will see EgyptAir withdraw a total of twenty-five aircraft from service over the course of next year.

Aside from the Embraers, four A321-200s are to be disposed of in 2018 while four remaining A320-200s will be sold off in 2018/19. A total of seven A330s are also to be decommissioned in 2019 with three A330-200s to be retained for conversion into freighters for EgyptAir Cargo.

Nice boast for the CS300, we'll see what will bring 2018 for this nice little plane.
Many happy landings, greetings from The Netherlands!
