I've been following the delivery flight of Hawaiian's newest A321neo and noticed that the routing of HAL9976 is via KPAE (with a little bit of sightseeing over Glacier Peak, I assume for photo ops).

How common is it to use KPAE as a transit for Airbus deliveries? Do you think Boeing employees would inspect the aircraft during it's layover?
And why not route through one of the stations where Hawaiian Airlines is going to start A321neo service (KPDX, KOAK, KLAX)?

It makes a tech stop at PAE to get some cabin work done by Aviation Technical Services.

There is nothing to inspect. The NEO has been flying for many airlines. If they want to see it, all they need to do is to buy a ticket on those airlines.
It's not like it's some state secrets.

HA has been sending their A330s to KPAE for the Business Class flatbed upgrade. So its nothing odd to be sending the plane via PAE. They probably have a contract with a Maintenance Company that is located at PAE.

HA 9976 flew considerably south of Glacier Park, the sightseeing was over the Cascade Mountains of Washington. They would have had a nice view of the Mission Mountains in Montana.

Correct! I mentioned Glacier Peak in Washington State.
