Delta A321 Future Routes

Wed Nov 08, 2017 8:22 am

Since the A321s have replaced the MD-88/90s on routes up and down the East Coast that were for years flown by practically only MD-88/90s to Florida, Washington, New York, and Boston, among others, can we expect them to replace the MD-88/90s on flights to other cities up and down the East Coast, such as Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Hartford, and Portland?

I know there’s a few MHT-ATL flights on the A321 coming up we were getting MD88s but now get MD90s.

I think it’s reasonable to look at just about any flight from those cities into ATL as a potential 321 route, especially flights timed to hit some of the big connecting banks (e.g. afternoon connecting to international flights).

DTW-LGA at the end of next summer, I’m taking a weekend trip with the family so I’ll fly up from MCO to meet them in Detroit and go onto LGA and our flight shows an A321 so far, I believe it departs at 9:55PM. Also am seeing the 321 do DTW-FLL, RSW, occasionally MCO/BOS/DCA, ATL, PHX, DEN, LAS, SAN, LAX, and SEA.

Increementally Delta ordered 122 A321's so far, until 2021. Soon they'll be all over the place for longer / high volume routes replacing MD-88, Boeing 757-200 and 767-300.

Just a little note, for years ATL-LGA was actually dominated by the 757, and only recently (last couple of years) did they switch over to mostly MD-88s/MD90s, but now this is almost exclusively 738/739/A320s with the occasional MD-90 thrown in. JFK was a different picture, however which is now mostly 737s and A320s. Wouldn't be surprised to see the A321 thrown into the mix a little more on ATL-NYC (JFK and LGA) down the road. ATL-RDU makes a lot of sense for it though considering it's a hub to focus city route.

Which days? I’ve been able to find nothing outside of the temporary A319/A320s.

I Imagine BDL will get a few soon, especially from ATL. Would be nice if DL brought back SLC-BDL and made that an A321, but one can only hope and wish.

Wow, 4x daily DTW-SAN next summer all on A321.

You're right, I see LAX, SEA, and some others in the mix also. The 321s will be spreading out all over in short order.
