Well that’s one way to reduce the trade deficit with the U.S.

Quote Seattle Times: China really is Boeing’s biggest market — but Thursday’s order news is mostly fake

https://www.seattletimes.com/business/b ... s-is-fake/

The 300 frames "order" includes most likely, already order frames, recent MoUs and some frames in the process of being ordered.

Amen! Every politician does this. Its just good PR. When Marcon goes to China they announce Airbus orders. I come here for Airplane news not political slams.

Not necessarily. This is largely politics and the deals aren’t binding. Is very common on high level trade visits to China - Beijing has the habit of restating the same deals and passing them off as new deals.

Basically they piled already existing and potential orders together to arrive at a big number to flatter the Presidents ego so he can say that he’s correcting a trade imbalance and claim it as a win. The deals do not have to go through.

You are right as I read through.

Ah, der Wurm windet sich.

publishing on a regular basis an order book with "unidentified entries" inclusive of reflections in the press
is "not announcing an order".... Do you really mean that?

One of the primary features of unidentifieds is getting double PR mileage out of them.
I do wonder when they have some squiggly idea on how to do it a third time.

Boeing is not releasing a press release every time they sign a UFO order. They can’t prevent aviation enthusiast/reporters from noticing and reporting on it.

Airbus does the exact same thing (eg that Ethiopian A350 “order” at the Paris Air show was firmed unidentified earlier this spring). Just last month Airbus signed 7 unknown A320neos. Boeing’s usually get more attention because they release new orders weekly and not monthly.

The release the orders as Unidentified because they have a duty to their shareholders to report firm orders, but the customer may not want to be identified yet for whatever reason. That is all.

Come on, Wlederling. This is just ridiculous.

I agree with Polot on this one.

It is no big conspiracy to deceive the world's population.

I have never seen offical press releases specifically made out for unidentified orders and certainly no trumpeting for them either.

Customers have their own reasons for not disclosing specifics about their orders earlier. Like Polot mentioned, Boeing publishes these unidentified orders in their order tallies because that is their responsibility. When the customer is ready, Boeing and the customer make a big thing about it.

Airbus does the same thing, as Polot also mentioned.

Boeing does some real unnecessary nonsense sometimes so no need to create a reason to bash them for bashing's sake. Pick one that already exists.

Some even may have been delivered already.

"Details" like "sold twice" "already delivered" "intend" fall of this kind of news at the first time its copied.

Reuters Factbox :
* Boeing Co won orders and commitments worth $37 billion at list prices for 300 jets, including 260 narrow-body Boeing 737s and a total of 40 wide-body 787s and 777s from state purchasing agency China Aviation Supplies Holding Co.

Facts are so over-rated these days.

If we're to call a two year wait, for an already arguably-obsolete product, "quickly."

They likely won't view it that way though, particularly seeing as Boeing themselves has said that the model has no future as a pax platform.

The only fact is that the number of Boeing deliveres to China is increasing year on year on year. The number of orders will also go up, regardless of any good news announcement during state visits.

Whilst you are both correct, the reality is that a very public announcement was made, and a thread covering it here on a.net was inevitable.

It is not the fault of a.net, nor the contributors to this thread, It's just that the news was..... I've invented this word, one of the greatest of all terms I've come up with, 'fake',..... yes, that's it, this is "fake news". :rotfl:

I would have preferred it too, if the announcement had some substance to it, some real meat in the sandwich. In the end all we got was a veggie burger, with a low-calorie dressing.

Quit being so dramatic... This was a classic order by China. The same thing happens with Airbus orders.
Also, from the same article you posted:

but it was believed that some of the orders were already in Boeing’s backlog. Boeing typically lets plane buyers determine what details to reveal about orders.
...
Some customers ask Boeing to not identify them as buyers even on firm orders, and China is typically among those, according to industry experts.
