Amazon Air & Brown Field. Possible?

Sun Nov 19, 2017 4:30 am

Considering the city of Chula Vista is in the running for a possible 2nd HQ for Amazon. Do you think Amazon can utilize neighboring Brown Field for expanded operations?

Brown Field has handled large military aircraft occasionally and also the Concorde. Can it be feasible to support a bunch of 767?

I know the Brown Field masterplan is seen to be developed as an airport city of some sort.

Maybe? But HQ2 doesn't necessarily need Amazon Prime Air. Amazon logistics designs around shopping volume, etc, not where the offices are located.

If anything, one of the points of HQ2 would seem to be to distance some management from operations of any one division. This will become increasingly important as Amazon diversifies. After all, despite appearances, Amazon is actually a conglomerate of efforts, including retail, media, and its most profitable (by yield), infrastructure-as-a-service computing. Having a headquarters be located elsewhere would be a way to reduce perceived bias.

Since there are about 100 cities vying for HQ2, every single one of which seems to have a large enough airfield "near by"... I wouldn't even think about chickens much less eggs yet.

Highly doubtful - no precision approach on either RWY and California NIMBY's
