Avianca Argentina started scheduled ops today

Tue Nov 21, 2017 4:18 pm

A little more after a year the project was announced, and with some legal challenges throw in by lawmakers affiliated with Cristina Kirchner (dismissed in Court), Avianca Argentina started its regular flights today with an AEP-ROS-AEP rotation. MDQ begins next week, more cities and a hub in TUC over the coming summer. Flights to Brazil are planned for the
Southern fall 2018, when A320s join the fleet.

AV Argentina is not directly related to Avianca Colombia, but with Synergy and AV Brazil. German Efromovich owns 100% of it.

Great to see this come to fruition in a timely fashion. To be honest I was expecting more fight from the incumbents to stop it getting off the ground. Good luck to all!

How can AV Argentina not be associate with Avianca Colombia? It's very confusing to me.

Virgin America wasn't associated with Virgin Australia.

The official airline in Argentina is named Avian Líneas Aéreas S.A. but trading as Avianca Argentina through a brand license agreement (similar to some of the Virgin airlines as mentioned above).

They're not completely unrelated though. The main investor in Avian Líneas Aéreas S.A. (AKA Avianca Argentina) is Synergy Group. Synergy Group is also a major shareholder in Avianca Holdings S.A. (AV Colombia)

In short:
- "Avianca Argentina" is NOT a subsidiary or part of Avianca Holdings S.A.
- Avianca Holdings S.A. and none of its subsidiaries have domestic routes in Argentina
- Avianca S.A. -from Avianca Holdings S.A. - operates the flights Bogotá-Buenos Aires-Bogotá and Lima-Buenos Aires-Lima.
Home airport: AMS
Next flight: CNX - BKK

The Jetstreams (ex Macair) are gone. They are starting with two ATRs, five more are due in the next 60 days and two A320s are due in March, presumably from AV Brazil or, less likely, Avianca Holdings. There are a total of 12 ATR 72-600 on order.

AV minority shareholder Kingsland apparently was not happy about AV's proposed JV with UA and the fact that both O6 and A0 are using the Avianca brand free of charge, among other things and have taken Synergy to court.

There have been reports that indicate A0 will use O6's FFP Amigo at some stage. Of course, AV still intend to merge with O6. It would only make sense to merge A0 at the same time. Before that happens, hopefully A0 will find its place in Star Alliance. They have big plans for A0 to eventually fly long haul from Argentina.
