A 350 in MKE

Sat Dec 02, 2017 9:08 pm

A manufacturers registered prototype marked A 350 is in MKE. What do we owe the pleasure of this visit?

Demonstrating something for UA, perhaps? I know they’ve looked at regional aircraft at PWK in the past.

Most likely doing cold weather testing. Airbus sent an A380 to MKE last fall with a Trent 1000 I believe and that's what it had planned to do. After arrival it flew one test flight and then sat on the ramp for weeks due to another engine issue before flying back to Europe. Next week is supposed to get very cold in the upper Midwest, so its perfect timing.

Looks like they picked an area of the country and an altitude where they could complete testing with no problems.
Remind me to send a thank you note to Mr. Boeing.

It is indeed cold weather testing. MKE also saw a C-5 today. Good stuff.

Why MKE? Is it facility related or geography related?

I'm guessing Airbus gets the best pricing for parking the plane at MKE. The aircraft isn't doing its cold weather testing at the airport. One of the test flights had the plane going over Lake Michigan and testing areas of Michigan that were experiencing lake effect snow. The aircraft was flying at 8000-10000 feet over those areas effected by snow.
