Might be time to stop thinking about one airplane directly replacing another. The MD-80s, MD-90s, and most 757s will be retired. There are still roughly 130 Boeing 737-900s and Airbus 321s on order. Add 100 A321neos and you pretty much have that covered.
OA412 wrote:As I said in the other thread, I don't understand all the America first comments, current political climate or otherwise. DL isn't going to take a worse deal just so they can fly American products. At the end of the day, there are three global US carriers, so passengers don't really have a ton of choice. Want to fly within the Southeast, you're best options are DL and AA, and both have sizable Airbus fleets.

Airbus will find some more literate people in Alabama to assemble the airframes. And the engines are U.S. origin.

Well Alabama did just vote in a Democrat to the US Senate after all.

mikegigs wrote:As much as I wanted a Boeing order, I think DL made the right choice with the A321. The 757's are getting old, and while many will say that the A321 isn't a 757 replacement (and I don't disagree), it's the closest plane being produced right now. Boeing should have focused on a MOM much earlier instead of the MAX program. It would be interesting to see some DL One configured A321neos though!

.......... or knowing that Delta was looking at a GTF product and was never really in the game, had nothing to loose causing a little pain for BBD.

That election will be reversed in 2 years. It had more to do with the person running than anything. But, again the spat between Delta and Boeing had little to do with Trump, plenty of Dems wanted the EX/I'M to live on as well.

The CS100 will replace the MD-88 and the MD-90. The A321 will replace the B757...
