Qatar always like to be different. Of all their destinations is PER really the one needing First Class among others???

Likely not (though Qantas Frequent Flyers will definitely make use of it), but it probably needs the bump in economy and business seats.

So now QR A380 destinations are LHR, CDG, SYD, MEL and now PER. They really like flying them to Australia!!

They really dont have a choice as the bilateral only allows them to fly 21 frequencies a week between the 4 main gateways in Australia. They just dont have the luxury of multiple frequencies like EK/EY

On top of the 21 frequencies they are allowed another 7 weekly frequencies that can fly to the 4 main gateways (PER,MEL,SYD & BNE) provided it flies to/via another port that is not one of the 4 main gateways, hence DOH-SYD-CBR

Hmm I don’t know, there is a lot of ‘Old noney’ alot of big mining money in Perth too.

Great to see another 380 operator here, how many more do QR have on order?

Amazing news and definitely didn't see this coming! I'm glad that QR is seeing good numbers on the route, EK going down to twice daily has probably done a lot of good for them.

Will be awesome to see two 380s parked next to eachother every night.

I wonder if this will affect QR’s cargo operation into PER.

I believe QF-EK/QR is what one refers to as double dipping. I am amazed that they make it work, but if they do, kudos to them.

Yes there is no doubt it will. They currently haul over 700 tonnes a month out of PER. In comparison EK hauls not much more and that’s with 2 daily flights. A lot of the cargo that goes out of PER is fresh food, there is normally 4 pallets of meat as well which comes from MEL, perhaps that will get sent to SYD instead. I personally believe that not before too long QR will have to start serving Australia with a dedicated freighter

Wasn't aware that the demand for DOH-PER was so high. Would rather have seen a A380 on the DOH-AKL route. Now that EK are down to only one A380 in AKL there is definitely enough space a QR A380.

DOH-AKL is a poor performer from what Ive heard. I would also point out that the load factors on QR from PER are consistently better than EK's

I am surprised considering how low the fares have been for there to be such an increase in capacity. Will be interesting to see what this does for fares. No one is making money on $1200 to Europe from PER.

Given above reason, it really makes sense.
So with the final 2 - A380s, PER will be the latest A380 destination. No 380 to JFK after all.
I assume that JFK will get daily 777-300ER Qsuite and 350-1000 Qsuite. QR plays it out with 2 daily flight rather than squeeze in an A380
Let's just blame it on yields.

PER-DOH can be done with just over 1 A388, in fact 2 frames you could do PER-DOH plus either DOH-LHR or DOH-BKK quite comfortably

Before QR introduced the QSuites it was not uncommon to see the 77W operate the QR900/901 to PER then do QR7/8 to LHR then back to PER again

FWIW QR has 3 A388's still to come so I would say we could still see 1 more route go A388

It could get very interesting if the previous rumour going around of EY upgrading PER-AUH from the 789 to the 77W comes to fruition.

Yes your right for some reason I thought they had ordered a total of 11 frames, however they have ordered 10

Only question I have is the Qantas lounge going to be big enough at T1? 50 odd business/first passengers not to mention the frequent flyers and at that time CX business/frequent flyers. Sounds like a bit of a squeeze.

I could see a freighter happening but you can fit at least 3-4PMC positions on an a380 depending on the pax baggage count.

The 77W Q-Suite service starts tomorrow (12/16) and there could be an upgrade to the A350-1000 if there is enough passenger demand. Technically you can park an A380 at Terminal 8 in JFK but it’s up to AA to allocate the correct gate since they manage the terminal ramp. With that being said, signs point to no since QR and AA would have to kiss and makeup.

Good news. DOH-PER route has been quite healthy and the mining activity is picking up again clearly in Perth.

I think the lounges will be fine. You have TG and SA moving from the QF lounge to NZ and when the 388 starts for QR all QF services will be over at the new domestic/international lounge

Apart from the 2 weekly seasonal QF PER-AKL the QF flights to SIN along with the TG flights are long gone even before QR arrives in PER let alone depart. What waoz1 was getting at that both QR and CX depart within an hour of each other which may lead to some congestion in the lounge. Just need to remember with QR going from 77W to A380 that's a 44% increase in available seats

Thanks thats what i was getting at.
I have a bad feeling passengers could be turned away at the lounge or no seating available for groups of two or more.

This is another airline that operates A380 in PER behind EK so far.
If it's not Boeing, I'm not going!

Can't speak for other routes, but as a passenger service agent who works the Qatar flights, there are tons of PER connections departing from my airport.

I would say Qatar does pretty well in OZ. except, I don't see many BNE bound pax on my flight. I would also say the AKL route does pretty well too!

Press release from PER airport

including comments from QR

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “We have seen continued demand and increased appetite for travel among the Western Australian market since we started flying this route from July 2012.
“We are delighted to be deploying our iconic A380 aircraft on the Perth route from 1 May 2018. When travelling to some of Western Australians’ favourite European cities including London and Paris, Perth passengers can henceforth enjoy a seamless inflight experience onboard our A380 aircraft on all legs of their journey.”

Wouldn't be surprised if AMS gets a A380 in the future. A high-density 777 now serves the route, so there must be demand.

Basically it is because the UAE has more to offer Australia than what Qatar does, the UAE is Australia's biggest trading partner in the Middle East. In 2015 the trade between Australia and UAE was around $8.8 billion compared to $1.2 million to Qatar.

The following links may help understand the differences between UAE and Qatar

http://dfat.gov.au/geo/united-arab-emir ... brief.aspx

http://dfat.gov.au/geo/qatar/pages/qata ... brief.aspx

Also both UAE carriers have alliances with QF and VA so that would be of benefit to the UAE carriers where as QR does not have such an alliance with an Australian carrier
