As discussed in the NZ thread. Former SQ 772ER 9V-SVL (subsequently registered to Boeing as N817BC) has been leased by Air NZ as ZK-OKI.

For how long will this be? And will it be an all-white plane, or carry a basic NZ livery?

The section around L2 and R2 is now gone.

Expect they will break it up soon.

I love this thread.
I can help on a few.
Thai HS-TJE and HS-TJF have been scrapped at Cotswald in England. Teardown started in Jan 2017 for both.

Don't think it even made it onto the US register? CAANZ is displaying it as its ex-SQ rego http://www.caa.govt.nz/script/aircraft-hist?Aircraft_ID=10089

Correct. The plane is still owned by Boeing Capital Corp. (Reg N817BC). It takes the Air New Zealand Reg ZK-OKI while on lease.

Zimbabwe Airways 77E Z-RGM has been returned to Kuala Lumpur, apparently repossessed by the lessor. It was never put into service in Zimbabwe, just standing around at Harare for 6 weeks. Zimbabwe Airways seems to be a dubious venture trying to circumvent Air Zimbabwe, the debt-ridden national carrier banned from flying to most countries. Ther is zero chance that the planned deal to operate 4 777s might come to fruition.

Technically according to their onboard boilerplates and FAA type certificates, they are all -200s. The -200 "(ER)" moniker is just for marketing purposes.

I do not know, but so far they don’t appear to have any prospective suitors and therefore seem to be destined for long term storage. Furthermore, all current 77L operators seem to be investing in newer, more modern aircraft. Also, airlines requiring a less capital intensive lift option are acquiring used B model 777s at far better rates and with less risk.

It is quite astounding to see that the B777-300ER had it's first flight around 15 1/2 years ago and there is currently only one frame, ex Latam PT-MUI stored/returned to the lessor. I know that EK is parking some of them but they all seem to find their owners in Russia. More than 750 built and still 99,9% flying, wow!

This "huge need" is a bit too late for VIM -- it went bust and stopped flying in 2017, so all that was left -- frames, crew, route authorities -- is up for grabs for more than half a year now.
So no matter this "huge need" -- someone else will have to quench it, VIM is not available for this task.

Any idea about what's gonna happen to PT-MUI, ex LATAM Brasil, parked at AUH since april? It's a 5 y.o aicraft with no more than 1800 cycles.

I'd say it's safe to say it'll fly again soon, but because it's much newer - and more expensive - than the other 77Ws coming into the market it might sit for a while longer.

Saudi Arabian 777-268ER, registered HZ-AKF, built in 1997 and retired last year, has been sold to the US Army. It will be blown up in an anti-terrorist exercise to evaluate how a modern day airliner reacts to on-board bomb.

Singapore Airlines 777-212ER 9V-SVI has been retired from the fleet, handed back to Boeing yesterday, reregistered N868BC and stored at Victorville.

Cathay Pacific 777-267 B-HND, hasn´t flown for a month. As the small CX 772 subfleet is scheduled for retirement one by one until next year, this could mean the end of this early-built Triple Seven.

Re: The 777 retirement and scrapping thread - 2018

Mon Jul 23, 2018 4:10 pm

Just a quick update, one of the ex-Nordwind 777s that was in GYR (unsure on the reg, presumably the original VP-BJB) has been completely parted-out and scrapped. Seeing the tail lying on the ground having been cut off the rest of the airframe was a sight to see.
People are saying. Believe me.

A note to the previous post, N777UK is not stored, but converted to a VIP frame, a beautiful one in fact.

N777UK is stored since 2013, apparently was converted to a VIP aircraft, and recenty repainted in an attractive scheme. But is it really active? There is nothing on flightradar to believe that.

Could be blocked on flightradar. If you are that rich, you would most likely prefer some privacy.

I thought 5Y-KQS went to Omni?
If not where is this aircraft now?

EgyptAir SU-GBR is currently active with them. Operating the MSR960.

The former Kenya 77E is N783KW since last month, still stored according to planespotters.net.

SU-GBR has indeed been quite surprisingly reactivated after 3 years of storage. SU-GBS is flying as well, however in plain white, assuming its a kind of backup aircraft and wont fly for long.
Both are doing only regional flights, with a lot of service to Saudi Arabia.

Both ex-MS B772ER SU-GBX and SU-GBY which were leased to BG are also now stored at SGN. When they were with Biman, they were registered under S2-AHK and S2-AHL respectively. Line Number 362 and 368.

Apparently Ukraine International Airlines has also sent their 4th 772ER for interim storage at Lourdes:
B777-28E MSN 28685/ LN 400 Ferried 07 Sept 2018 ZRH-LDE, 2-reg for interim storage ex 2-AERC

Ex-EK A6-EMR B773A has now been delivered to Cathay Pacific as B-HNS after storage at XMN from 04. June - 03. Sept 2018. First of five ex-EK B773A going to CX. The other four are A6-EMT, EMV, EMX and EMQ.

At the same time, CX will retire five B772A (B-HNA, HNB, HNC, HND, HNL). First B772A, 777 prototype B-HNL was withdrawn from service on 1st June 2018.

Thank you for the updates/corrections.
Even if photography is largely forbidden on Saudi airports isnt it odd that no picture of one of the the 20+ stored/parted-out SV 77E has found its way to the internet?
