Ehh, I don't know if I'd call MSP weak. They're taking one weekly frequency away from MSP-MSY and cutting PHL, however they're adding MYR three times a week and SEA daily. So they're still up in net frequency, just reallocating some of the resources.

It's unfortunate the amount of cuts DAY has seen, too bad the cuts continue. I don't see DL going much lower in DAY though, this is what's left:
MSP: 3xCRJ
DTW: 4xCRJ
ATL: 4xMD80
In comparison, from 2005:
ATL: 4xMD80, 2xCRJ
CVG: 2xCR7, 5xCRJ
DTW (NW): 3xCRJ
FLL: 1xERJ
MEM (NW): 2xCRJ
MSP (NW): 2xCRJ
MCO: 2xERJ
TPA: 1xERJ
DAY has suffered quite a bit from airline consolidation and CVG's prices falling. I am hoping G4 continues to expand/Spirit begins service.

Thanks as always Enilria for making my Sunday morning. And thanks so much cvgComair for the informative post on DAY. I am there basically every week flying out for work. I have had a sense that LGA has been marginal for a while. I tried to use it to bring people in for work from New York, but for a while they weren't operating it Sunday night, which is the one night a week I needed to have clients on it to get them to DAY for Monday morning meetings.
I think the ongoing DAY cuts are due to the issues you name above, and also to the wider economic standing of DAY in the region. Although things are less bad than they were a decade ago, the larger regional cities (IND, CMH, CVG) have seen their fortunes rise much faster than DAY, and that has pushed the airlines to reallocate resources. And even more so, the coastal cities are booming when compared to the center of the country. DAY may not be doing any worse than it was a year ago, but wrestling CR7 or CR9 capacity away from the growing SEA, BOS, and NYC operations is difficult to do.
As someone who uses the DAY-MSP route constantly, I wonder what is going to happen as the CR2 fleet continues to shrink.
Bottom line is DAY is a fantastic place to fly out of. $4.95 a day parking where you can walk to the terminal in 5 mins, and a fantastic ground crew with relatively low turnover who is always immensely helpful when problems come up.

For the MSP-PHL cut, it's probably more that AA is aggressive with the Basic Economy on the PHL side. NK has cut ORD, gone "seasonal" for DTW out of PHL, where at BWI NK has been more solid and hasn't cut one route. Southwest just doesn't have an equivalent of Basic Economy and doesn't discount fares for last minute bookings. There is some side competition with F9 offering MSP-TTN as well.

Interesting. I thought DL would've picked up KCVG-KPHX since they've flown charters for the Cincinnati Reds in the past (and, IINM, they might have a marketing partnership with the Reds), much like AS is flying KSFO-KPHX as part of their marketing partnership with the San Francisco Giants.

Interesting, they slashed it to a meager 1x daily and now they're going to 5x daily?

We need to see LAX, SEA, and BOS up to 2 daily again. Also ORD needs to see an A380 before DTW is even thought about. I however believe that Emirates will add DTW before ATL as ATL already has a Qatar 773.

They dropped it after the 2015 Spring season. I am kind of surprised it has not come back since then, Delta has increased its seats on CVG-DEN/LAS/SFO quite a bit. I do wonder if DL will jump back on it. For instance, F9/G4 started CVG-DEN and DL is responding by adding a MD-90 (up from a CR9). Likewise, G4/F9 started CVG-LAX and DL is adding 757's on the route again this Summer.

I am surprised that it was WN that added the service and not one of the LCC's, because that seems like something they would've done.

I think DTW will be added before 2 X daily to BOS and SEA are restored but you are right about LAX. Also remember that Michigan travelers are adding to the ORD numbers so when DTW is added there will be no need for the 380 at ORD. Expect DTW to be announced before the end of the year. DTW is very much on EK's radar whether those believe it or not.
