Since this thread is about repainting A320s into the AS livery, does anyone have any real pics or timeline when the first plane comes out of the paint hangar?

VX fleet is registered very similarly to AS, A319s are N52XVA, A320s are little bit of a mess for some reason and the A321s are N92XVA.

I can understand if they re-register in the event of a fleet number conflict. A320/321s in the 800 and 900 range will be an issue because AS will use those numbers for MAX 8 and MAX 9 respectively. I suppose a new numbering system will be established for the Airbuses.

The only time an airline re-registered their planes after a merger (that I can remember off the top of my head) was the AirTran 73Gs that went to Southwest.

USAir also did this in 1988 to all of the ex-PSA aircraft. For example, PSA’s last MD-82 registered N952PS was re-registered as N830US with US. And PSA’s British Aerospace 146-200 registered N368PS was re-registered as N192US with US.

FlightRadar24 just reported that N848VA is indeed in full Alaska Airlines colors and has been in the paint shop since 9 Jan. Seems like a fast turn around in the paint shop, but we will see what it looks like when it lands in SFO at 11:07am PDT.

AA re-registered more than the A321s following the US Airways merger, some 757s & A320s changed I believe but some A330s definitely did but not all of them.

It's certainly an interesting prospect to see an Airbus in Alaska Airlines livery :D

I just checked Flightaware, seems strange to see all of VX flights listed as ASA, and see Airbus

Saw N848VA last Friday (05JAN18) arrive SFO and was in VX colors. and based on the tail history has been flying since until the 09JAN18 when it did a red-eye flight from LAX to GSO. Could a plane be repainted in 24 hours? If so, it would be possible in AS colors but I think this aircraft is still in the old VX colors, just maybe a cleaner looking aircraft. Just have to wait for its arrival into SFO in about an hours time

It had a smidge over 48 hours on the ground in GSO not 24. But I agree that seems rather short. Well we’ll see in 30mins I guess if someone gets it in KSFO.

arrival into GSO on the 10th at 4:32 am and departed the 11th at 8:39 am, I say that's that roughly 28 hours, which is closer to 24 hours than 48 hours. Unless the schedule you know of had them arrive a day earlier.

That is the attitude that gets airlines - and any other business - in trouble.

The reference was the airplane either being a Boeing plane or an Airbus plane. The majority of the public does not care and therefore, "makes no difference".

Its kinda like Delta in the early 2000s with several different non-special liveries.)

This is the "interim" scheme introduced a couple years ago. Different winglet paint design, crisper Alaska titles on the fuselage, no green border stripe around the tail design.

Hello! Sorry off topic, VX FA here and wanted to mention a few things to those wondering about on-demand ordering. It will be gone by April 25th (unless management and the union come to an agreement, and then we vote on it). I honestly highly doubt any AS FA would be ok with it :box: I personally don't mind it much. I feel like it's easier than pulling the carts out 3 times on a transcon, but I don't know any better.

Also, if you check on the Alaska page and try to book a LAX-JFK leg as of April 25th, obviously on VX metal, Premium Class, or as we now know it "Main Cabin Select" no longer offers unlimited snacks, meals, and drinks. It simply says, "Drinks on us" and food available for purchase, and it doesn't state anywhere "On- demand ordering" like it says on the VX site.

Cheers :)

QR was all Airbus before the 777-300ER/777-200LR and subsequent 787/777 orders.

Gulf Air is all Airbus, with inbound 787 orders.

Royal Jordanian was all Airbus prior to the 787's, excluding RJ's.

In a more extreme example, Air Jamaica was all airbus, and is now all Boeing.

Gulf air had lots of Boeing . 737s 767s , Lockheed 1011s

Royal Jordanian DC-8s L1011s

Air Jamica was DC8s and 9s.

Those are off the top of my head but there were others I am sure.

They never had DC8s but B707s and B727s.

Air Canada bought 737s to replace A 320s.
The Chinese are replacing A330s with 787s.
And countless replaced their A340s with 777s, even LH have 779s on order!

As a generality per Anet, anytime Airbus cracks an all Boeing (though a sliver of its existence) airline its enlightenment and progressive. All Boeing fleet is regressive and boring. Note, this does not apply to airlines with Airbus fleets. Just keep that simple thought in mind and Anet threads will make more sense to you.

I agree 100% that it means enlightenment and progressiveness.

Flight 261 crash was an AS MD83 - so all Boeing is something very temporary - if anything.

FlightRadar24 just reported that N848VA is indeed in full Alaska Airlines colors and has been in the paint shop since 9 Jan. Seems like a fast turn around in the paint shop, but we will see what it looks like when it lands in SFO at 11:07am PDT.

Twitter link from further up on this page which links to a photo supposedly showing N848VA at SFO, still in VX colors:

I believe N569AS, the former "Starliner 75" has been repainted into the new livery.

Anyone know what work AS does at OKC? Saw 2 AS 737s in new paint hanging over by one of the hangars today.

I know they repainted the 75th anniversary specialty plane, do we know what others are going to go? I am pretty sure I read on here that a good chunk of them were going to go. Anyone know when 559 (Salmon Thirty Salmon) is going to get a repaint?

Will they remove the IFE as well on the Airbus? I see the whole Airbus plane has IFE.
If it's not Boeing, I'm not going!

AS does their heavy maintenance in OKC. N626AS is currently down their having its maintenance done and as soon as it comes back, N627AS will be next to go in.

Doubt they are removing IFE. Maybe the TVs. But not the IFE, it will get the AS standard.

Listening to JFK earlier today and lots of Redwo.. errrr.. Alaska check-ins from the ex-VX flights. :)

Gotta admit, I'll miss that callsign.

They're repainting the fish?

Gotta love the new marketing person: let's remove all fun from the airline so everything looks the same! Goes well with cookie gate.

Has Alaska modified any of its aircraft with the new F and premium economy?

I’m still confused. So VX planes, notably A320s, will be repainted in full or hybrid Alaska colors? At the same time they continue to operate in legacy VX network, which organically had overlap with AS, but are still operated by VX flight and cabin crews, and feature VXs inflight service products. Basically the planes are just being painted??? Now the 321s, are those now being delivered to be operated by Alaska Airlines flight, cabin crew, and with AS standardized hard product operating in the legacy AS system- or perhaps introducing the new product into the legacy VX system where demanded needed?

Did WN do a step integration approach with FL where litterally the operates FL while continuously shrinking it and transferring FL aircraft to WN along with employees and airport operations etc?

WN Flight Crews (FAs and Pilots) never cross-trained or flew any non-standard aircraft. If WN Crew worked a flight, it was configured and painted as WN and the same was true for FL Crews. Now as far as ground crews, I do know that certain stations had WN agents working FL flights bc they had to learn their reservations system, but I don't recall FL agents ever working WN fights. I think there was very minimal overlap in catering towards the end on a few specific flights.

Other than those examples things were kept very delineated.

Confirmed: First Airbus A320 in Alaska Airlines livery will be out of the paint hangar sometime this week. (Don't have exact date.)

The bird is N625VA, currently in VCV.

I think the first Airbus interior refit occurs in October, unless I'm mistaken.

By the way, the aircraft currently being painted at VCV is N625VA.

This looks fantastic! Definitely one of the best looking A320s in the sky now.

Heartbroken to see jefferson airplane repainted :( This really is the beginning of the end for my beloved Virgin America.

On a different note, the livery is slightly revised from how it looks on the 737s. Look at the stripes that lead from the tial to the fuselage. On the A320, they seem more wavy, and the design on the engines also looks different.
