Anyone have info on Q400 interior rehabs?

Some of those have been shabby for years.

Latest 10-K had the projected end of 2020 Q fleet down to 23 planes. Given that, I would guess not much will happen to the shabby ones unless they have to replace something that breaks before the frame gets retired.

I get that it would be silly to add First Class to the Q fleet, but do they plan to add Premium Class seating with the new interiors?

I'm guessing such a move would cost them 4 seats, but I would think it would be beneficial, especially since I still see these planes on routes where AS competes with DL (BOI-SEA being one such route).

A route like this is mostly comp upgrades anyways. My last BOI-SEA mainline flight had nearly 30 people on the F wait list.

The QX Q400’s are pretty much maxed out at 76 seats. There’s no simple way to add more or convert some to premium without sacrificing legroom on all the other seats.

As for the blue seats, as far as I’m aware it’s nothing more than replacing the red seat covers with blue ones.

Yeah, that's why I said they'd probably have to lose 4 seats/1 row to do it. I am sure AS has looked at the revenue Premium Class generates and would be able to see if the up-sell would cover the loss of those seats. You guys are far more in the know than I am, so it appears the answer is no.

So far as of today (2/22):

Repainted:

319: 6/10 - N525VA in paint and due out Sunday 2/24
320: 42/53 - N284VA in paint and due on Wednesday 2/27
321: 3/8 (1 delivered from factory already painted, 2 in more to love livery)

Reconfigured:
319: Zero/10
320: 1/53 - N625VA almost complete
321: 1/8 - N928VA just entered service the past few days

There are plenty of airbuses at GSO but its a mix of heavy checks and other work. Its hard to figure out exact which birds are in for mods versus heavy checks...

In related news; they had kind of a reveal 2/27 at SFO of N928VA, the bird with the new cabin, and a lot of Most West Coast cheerleading. Pres & CEO Ben Minicucci says that they’ll take delivery of two more NEOs, bringing the Airbus fleet to 73, and the Airbi will stay on lease for another 5 or 6 years. They’ll have four Airbi in cabin conversion per month starting this month. They’ll decide at the end of this year if they’ll keep the mixed fleet or return to all-Boeing when the Airbi leases expire.

Looks like the Red Tail Fleet will be barely legal and in their teens again now, or pretty darn soon!

Alaska seems to be on a mission with the paint how fast it’s going!
Maybe Madonna could remake Cher’s “If I could turn back time,” for a fitting montage video tribute of the fleet.

I went spotting at SFO a few times last week, and there were several chunks of time (at least an hour or more) where every airbus at T2 was in Alaska livery.

Alaska doesn’t own the Virgin name and branding. They are on a mission to get rid of it ASAP before they owe the Virgin Group more licensing money.

Thank God. This has been difficult to manage, operationally, and I'm glad this process is nearly at an end. Cabin mods will take longer, of course, but the key hurdle in presenting as a single brand is the visual identity of the aircraft, at least externally, and that's finally coming to a conclusion.

Thanks! I think I may have seen that link before but had forgotten about it. Interesting that the fleet includes the 737 MAX 9 and A320neo. Alaska has come so far in the 45 years that I’ve flown them.

Interesting to note that N607AS (Timbers), N559AS (Salmon Thirty Salmon II), N560AS (Spirit of the Islands), N570AS (Adventure of Disneyland), N512AS (Spirit of Seattle), and N318AS (Spirit of Disneyland II) have yet to be repainted or at least get the new wordmark branding. AS and the Timbers just reupped the jersey sponsorship for a few more years, but that doesn't mean the livery wouldn't go away.

528 is in GSO for C-Check but isn't listed for the Cabin refit.Supposed to exit today, we'll see if it goes in for Cabin.
