AC vs AF on YUL-CDG

Sun Dec 31, 2017 2:45 am

Does anyone have data on LF for AC vs AF on YUL-CDG? I've always wondered which airline does better on the route and which side has better loads, ie. CA POS vs FR POS. Both sides have large French populations (France obviously) and both AC and AF have hubs on one side, although AF has their main hub in CDG, while Montreal is more O/D than Paris.

Interesting question, I’m thinking AC is doing well at CDG given their investment in a Maple Leaf Lounge despite the limited transit traffic.

If I recall correctly YUL-CDG is about 700 PDEW. Plenty of pieces of that pie for AC and AF.

AF has the biggest market share in the route with up to 3 x Daily flights during the summer season and 2 x Daily during the winter. AC offers 2 x Daily at its best during the summer.

Paris - Montreal traffic is huge. Beside AC & AF, don’t forget Corsair, and Air Transat who offers several flights per week from YYZ and YUL not only to Paris but also to many French cities during the summer (MRS, BOD, TLS, etc...).

Given the heavy demand, why did AF drop the A380 on the route? In summer wouldn't they be able to sustain it?

Air Transat offers at least 2 daily in summer while Corsair offers 1 x daily to ORY during summer months. Total = 8+ daily YUL-Paris during the peak summer season. Even in the winter months it's 4 daily (including Air Transat) so I don't see how 700 PDEW makes sense. It must be higher than that.

Montreal-Paris is among the top non London transatlantic markets in market size.

AC is quite strong connecting the regions "Francophonie européenne" and "Canada francophone". In addition to Roissy CDG they also have:
YUL MRS 3/7 seasonal
YUL NCE 4/6 seasonal
YUL LYS 2/7 seasonal
YUL GVA 7/7
YUL BRU 14/7

LYS is not a seasonal route and is 7/7 peak summer, 4/7 y/r.
BRU is 7/7.

There is no doubt that the YUL-CDG market is huge on AC, AF, and TS. YUL-ORY is operated by LEVEL and other airlines as well.

I would say that AF most likely handles most of the connections on the route. AC, TS, and LEVEL are not serving the connection market, just passengers between YUL and Paris.

I bet BEY is an popular connection option for AF from YUL. Still also disappointing how no non-stop flights between YUL and BEY are allowed considering how Europe can handle BEY flights without security issues, even if the Beirut Airport is controlled by Hezbollah or having security issues.

I have been curious about this for sometime. Does either France or Canada have remotely similar data as the US T-100?

While, certainly AF gets lots of connecting pax from BEY, AC also gets a fair share of pax on MEA flights connecting through CDG, LHR, GVA & FRA.
