Yes, HA will replace the A332 with the A321neo from November 4, 2018: https://www.google.com/flights/#search; ... 5;s=0;so=t

With that being said though, that date is still very far away from now, so there's still a slight chance HA could change this back to the A332 in time...

FlightAware says they flew it yesterday with an A330. They don't have it listed for tonight.
PDX's website has these flights listed on their arrival/departure page for tonight. Why would
they fly an A330 from/to Boeing/PAE? Their flights from HNL and OGG tonight are both
arriving early so it has nothing to do with them.

Ok, thanks! Seemed weird that an Airbus was going to Boeing, but I don't know how the MX work is performed.
I don't think flights like that need to be listed on the airport screens. Nobody would understand why HA is flying
to/from Everett like it says. I was there and saw the screens today. Also says it arrives at E7. At last check, don't
we have just E1-5? And E5 may be in-op now with the concourse expansion??

Alaska has added a 4th daily PDX-SNA. Not sure if this is ahead of schedule or was already mentioned. (April- was announced in previous OAG updates thread.)

The 748 has bypassed ANC a few times already. Not too sure as to why that is, though...

PDX-Hawaii and PDX-Florida are about the same distance, ~2,650 mi. Good selection of nonstops now to Hawaii, not so much to Florida. Kona is now suspended only mid-August through October.

Don’t forget DL flies PDX-HNL 1x daily for 2 weeks around Christmas, and then every Saturday from February to end of March. I wouldn’t be surprised to see DL eventually go year round with this route.

In regards to the potential Florida routes from PDX, I would like to see AS take on PDX-FLL and PDX-TPA, while AA does PDX-MIA. SEA already has two daily flights to Miami...

While I think flights to FLL and MIA are definitely a good add- I would argue that most people in the PDX catchment area would rather vacation in Hawaii than Florida. I personally like Florida, but it's definitely not considered as nice a destination as Hawaii by many people around here (aside from the Theme Parks)

I agree that PDX to S. Florida is a matter of when & not if. You would not need to argue your point, it's quite factual that Northwesterners vacation in Hawaii more often than Florida, despite equal travel times. Disney excluded, it's not even a horse race.

I & every one I know here, do agree that Hawaii is a nicer place to hit the tropics for two weeks, my folks own a condo there, so do most of their friends & the large groups we'd go with the first two weeks of August, every year from 1979 onwards feel the same way today.

I also know 3 different folks that live here & have condos in Palm Beach or Ft Lauderdale, they go back & forth twice a year, but Hawaii is the king of vacations from Oregon still.

It works both ways. People in South Florida vacation in/travel to the West too. Nonstops boost traffic, especially on long routes. Looking at the numbers again I see only one new route to Florida: either MIA/AA or FLL/B6. Both have lots of connections to the Caribbean. The port should even consider a subsidy. I don’t see TPA anytime soon.

I think the only other additions we’ll see this year are BNA and maybe some seasonals going year round (IAD, BWI, PHL, YYZ).

American seems to be the latest airline to be cutting back at PDX. Down to only one daily to both ORD and CLT hubs. Doesn’t increase in summer. I’d rule out any chance for AA to MIA.
United apparently is adding to ORD and IAH from PDX.
Southwest adds a 3rd flight (x1) to MDW in summer.
Alaska adds a 2nd daily to DAL in summer.

Still no final 2017 #s from PDX.

I wonder if the reason why PDX is losing all of this air service is that the airport is becoming too expensive to operate from especially with the current billion dollar construction projects going on........

American Airlines regularly cuts down to one ORD for the "midwinter slump" and the double CLT was a recent add over the holidays. American Airlines doesn't have their summer schedule set yet.

passenger traffic and a 4% increase over calendar year 2016.

PDX is in a bit of a catch-22 because of its dependence on Alaska. Other airlines are hesitant to start new routes from Portland because of Alaska. Some even cut back. As Alaska is shifting resources to beef up or launch routes from other cities—SJC, SAN, SFO, PAE etc.—that probably means even less for PDX at least in the short term. Alaska has already cut back on routes that were supposed to be year round—DTW, MCI, STL.

Will Alaska’s flights from PAE be new allocations of planes or will they just be shifting the planes from existing SEA flights to PAE? The former would be a particularly bad sign for PDX this year.

Looks like the POP plans to demolish several buildings for the future North Ramp RON expansion adjacent to the extended CC-E...Building 7615,7605,7705,7645 and 7527 are all slated for demolition...I'm surprised that they're not demolishing the Hanger building 7505.....Also, I notice that there's a planned PDX maintenance facility development costing $110,780,000...I wonder if this has something to do with United plans to build a maintenance hanger here.........

Given the difference in size it's almost impossible to compare EUG to PDX... I suspect EUG is in a sort of "donut hole" where it's still too small for AS/QX to justify upgauging service, but just barely large enough for other carriers (particularly UA) to do so.

BTW, I don't know if it's just me but the airport stats page at the POP website sure seems disorganized; year-end numbers and specific months don't seem to be in any order, very difficult-- or impossible -- to track down... Is there a trick to it?

Also, I notice that Mr. Granato did not include any int'l pax numbers for 2017. I'll be curious to see those when they are posted.

Stats page was OK until a few days ago.

It appears that PDX is still the biggest airport (19 million pax) and Portland the largest metro area (No. 17 CSA) without a nonstop to South Florida. To what other “large hub airports” is Portland the largest unserved destination?

Nope. Looks like just 1x day to SFO.

Edit: I was wrong. This summer only it will be 2x week (Sun/Wed) on an E75. Very interesting indeed.

Icelandair resumes 15-16 March. Condor 1 May. Both 2x/week to start. FI goes 3x in April, increasing to 6x in mid June. Condor 4x in late June.

If so, it will probably be from international growth. The AM PDX-MEX daily is likely drawing Central and South America connecting traffic that would have gone to LAX, IAH or double-connecting to MIA (with no AA nonstop). Norwegian to Paris or DL alternating days with LHR? Increased frequency to FRA? Switching Tokyo to JL and converting HKG/CX to passenger/cargo combo?

If airlines don’t start adding instead of cutting like they did in 2017, those numbers won’t be impressive. A 19 million passenger airport should get better attention than PDX does. AA has trimmed ORD, CLT. We’re way underserved by ULCCs too. Seasonals to IAD/UA, BWI/WN and YYZ/AC need to go year round. FLL/B6 and BNA/WN should be targeted. Alaska might not be adding much, just restoring what got trimmed (Horizon) in 2017.

Time for a few incentives?

I was still under the impression that DEN-OTH had been chopped for good at end of last season due to dropping numbers of visitors to Bandon Dunes. So, my apologies in my previous quotes I omitted OTH-DEN on the E-175. My point is even further made however, UA is making great strides in serving Oregon with their adds to SFO & LAX.

Wow!...great numbers for pdx! Wonderful growth! Whoever thought that a city like Portland would see numbers like this? Great to see delta and Alaska continue to grow. Nonstop destinations seem to increase every year. With Seattle continuing to grow, and Seattle being such an easy connection that it makes getting almost anywhere in the world in 1 stop so much easier. Lets hope for continued growth in the pacific northwest for SeaTac and pdx.

Played around with it and for STL at least the Sun Country times match the Southwest times, the flight numbers even match except for the WN and SY parts. Something must be pulling it wrong unless there is some codeshare no ones knows about.. haha
