It is one of the 787-10 test aircraft (LN 548 or 565). It is painted all white except for the Boeing name/logo on the lower fuselage behind 1L, which you just barely see in the photo.

It would be LN548 (N548ZC). LN565 (ex-N565ZC, N reg now shown as cancelled) has the Dubai Airshow stickers, and re-entered the hangar for rework with the stickers intact, it also has a painted -10 tail.

Etihad has not left final assembly yet. The tail is already painted with their color so you would know if it was out.

Does the -10 have a wider wing? It sure looks like it does compared to the -9's in the pic.

It’s LN548 (565 has a blue tail). 548 was the GE tester. It will go to UA as either N12003 or (more likely) N12004.

Nope. Both have the same exact wing.

Over 400 dash 8's will soon be delivered. That is a highly impressive figure for an expensive widebody jet -particularly It is only one derivative and by no means the main one!
The recent changes to the manufacturing process for the dash8 are interesting.Clearly looking to reduce manufacturing costs and increase commonality.
If Airbus are to be believed (and they are) the replacement market for the 332 has hardly started. So the battle between the 788 and the 338NEO has hardly started. This single derivative of the 787 will easily pass 500 copies.Furthermore the 797 is a decade away ( if at all) the 788 is the go to aircaft at the upper end of MOM in the absence of a 797.

Errr... A338 market? It isn't just size, but also cost per flight. Aircraft are not dueling pistols, perfectly matched sets are not required. I expect most A338s to be freighters, but that assumes enough MTOW to fill the centerline tank a bit (The current A332F lacks enough MTOW to do so and thus is excluded from toouch of the widebody freight market).

Competitions will be 788/789/787-10 vs. A339/A350/A35K as well as new smaller longer range planes such as the MoM and A321LR.

I see more 788s selling until the MoM production hits stride.

Maybe?

I think B averages production at about one 788 a month...and I'm sure it is the oddball compared to the 789 and 10. It may be even more expensive to make at that rate than a 789. I imagine B would be pushing carriers with 788 orders (maybe 80 or 90) to upgrade to the larger models. The 788 may never make 400.

you need to remember the production strategy Boeing uses that basically eliminates any cost difference in mutli-model production lines.. remember also that every customer is a variation. if the logistics would support throwing a -10 into the line, it would have little effect on production.

Back in the days of massive parts inventories you would be correct, however JIT has eliminated that issue.

That was the 2016 situation, things have changed since then.

Boeing has just implemented changes to the 788 in order to make it more similar to the 789 production wise. This will reduce the cost of producing a 787-8 and makes it easier to increase the overall rate to 14 per month. This came together with an increase in new orders for the 787-8 starting last year, with AA ordering 22 the biggest one. There have also been some down conversions from the 787-9 to the 787-8, for example BA has done this.

Perhaps true -- but also the economics. Do you want to be a carrier or leaser, ten or 15 years from now, with a 788 to unload on the second hand market -- or a 789?

Did they ever make the 788 center box and gear bay (larger) to floor compatible with the 789? I had heard this was significantly different, at least in the past.

I still think upgrades to 789 are far more likely than carriers down-gauging to 788...If the 788 is now similar to the 789 production wise...you get 30/40 less seats for very modest decrease per-flight cost. It's the same reason A338neo is looking shaky and the A358 was never built. And is Boeing really going to price the 788 to make it worth your while?...Or more likely, price the 789 competitively...e.g. Hawaiian.

Sorry for getting a bit off topic !!

Boeing did not fully reveal what all the changes are. The one obvious change is the tail, it has become the same as the 789.

Boeing still prefers to sell the 787-9 and -10, but with the recent orders it shows that some airlines still have a need for the -8. And if it prevents airlines buying planes from the competitor it's worth it.

As for upward conversions, check the discussion on the previous page on this thread. There are some possibilities, mostly with the orders that are already shaky, but most of the remaining 787-8 orders are still recent and therefore less likely to be converted.

It is not due to roll out of final assembly until the end of the month, probably in about 2 week's time, after roll out it will head to the paint hangar for painting so the earliest we will see it in full livery is early September

Not sure exactly, the 787 spreadsheet is only up to the end of April and nothing is listed so far. Considering the order was finalised in March I would expect towards the latter part of next year

The next 788 for BA is G-ZBJK which is currently in the paint hangar and due for delivery early September.

G-ZBJL should enter final assembly in about a month's time with delivery due at the beginning of November

LN 727 China Eastern Airlines
LN 722 Eva Air
And why last one for Air China is delayed 11/30/2018?

The first batch of CEA frames actually will be flown by Shanghai Airlines under FM colors. Delay in delivery relate to engine issues. No delivery date has yet been confirmed.

Interesting seeing as these are GE powered frames. I guess that is what is holding up the EVA frame as well.

Been browsing flyertalk. It's seems there's a UA 787-10 with a Star Alliance tail at CHS. One can assume this is LN548 seeing as LN731 is painted in the full livery:

There's also another photo of the EVA Air 787-9:

There are 28 in service, plus these 2 final deliveries of the -8. Then 12 orders for -10 with deliveries starting late 2019-2021

Been browsing flyertalk. It's seems there's a UA 787-10 with a Star Alliance tail at CHS. One can assume this is LN548 seeing as LN731 is painted in the full livery:

There's also another photo of the EVA Air 787-9:

548 still has a white tail and is back on the flight line. The Star Alliance tail is a different plane.

Well it doesn't help when we don't have eyes on the ground at CHS anymore. I found the photo on a United thread on flyertalk so I just thought it was the United frame. The only other aircraft it could be is an ANA 787-9.

Any idea when the first TK 789 to be ready? TK is to receive first 6 789s next year. Thank you.

Going on more information now, the first routes are published so probably a late June delivery, if that is the case final assembly to be in April 2019

B-1216 is on the a.net database engine-less and fully painted in standard Air China c/s. So it rules that one out.

LN 688 has the normal Air China livery. I'm thinking it is ANA LN 741 that is currently/finishing in paint. I will see if I can confirm that by tomorrow.

Not sure exactly, the 787 spreadsheet is only up to the end of April and nothing is listed so far. Considering the order was finalised in March I would expect towards the latter part of next year

Thank you for the info. Looking forward to it.
