GECAS converted 6 of their 787-10 to the 787-9 earlier this year in one go. 2 of those 787-9s will go to Suparna Airlines, this 3rd one with this de code CWY could be another Chinese airline, probably also one of the HNA Group airlines.
Spreadsheet has been updated for this entry. Its Hong Kong Airlines.
That's an interesting development.
Last year there was some news about them talking to both Airbus and Boeing about "possibilities" to grow their long haul fleet faster, but that didn't result in an order announcement.
https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/eco ... val-cathayBut the lack of an announcement might have just been the economic tensions between the US and China. Chinese airlines clearly have not walked away from the Boeing 787. I wouldn't be surprised if we will see some more new Chinese deals in the next couple of months now the both governments are talking again to ease the issues.
The original MoU for the large Hainan order from 2011 was also supposed to go to Hong Kong Airlines. They went all Airbus instead with the 787 order being firmed up for Hainan Airlines instead. So you could see this as another example of an airline that was supposed to get the 787, then not but to order it anyway on a later date. Just like China Eastern and El Al for example.
