Its simply a privately managed facility located on the airport perimeter with its own TSA and CBP inspections. Clients and their bags are driven rampside to/from their aircraft avoiding the terminal and public eye. All UA has done is negotiated bit discounted pricing and is jointly marketing the product.

I read the article on United.com/hub and nowhere do I recall “for an additional fee”- it could be there in some form and I could have missed it- but it absolutely does NOT call it out in an unmistakable way. I immediately got the idea behind it, that when Beyoncé flies a 73G to San Diego, it’s super private. But I also assumed that UA needs VIP club space at all its biggest hubs. Polaris is strictly managed (about who can/cannot enter) and the United Clubs are packed like the planet Gideon!

I’m not sure if it would be a service I personally would be interested in - but the article sure makes it sound like something “new and sexy” from United!

Just FYI, the discounted rate for The Private Suite when booking through United is $1495.00 for a one-way. This is actually a pretty big discount off the regular rates, but doesn’t guarantee exclusivity as United only has one suite. It is available only in combination with full-price business/first fares to EWR, ASE, HNL, KOA, ITO, LIH, OGG, LHR, SJD, MEL, SYD, PVG, SIN, NRT.

Is $1495 per person or if you and your family of 4 are together is it $1495 or $5980?

It bugged me enough I took a few pictures and sent them to Scott who I had ran into in Houston just few days prior. I know he has bigger issues to deal with but it is such a bad look and we are making so much money now there is no reason for it.

I was in Boston earlier this month and a 737 literally had the Globe logo peeling off the tail like the plane was molting.

The gate agent stated it was because the Tulip was coming back anyway.....I just didn’t touch any of that with a ten foot pole.

It is a problem, hopefully just short lived. I was on another 752 yesterday from EWR to Denver, I was in seat 1F. Actually the seat looked brand new, the bulkheads though are really shabby. So, nature called and I went to the lav, the front lav was occupied so I checked the one at the rear of First, the one E & F can share. It was “vacant”. I was absolutely appalled by how bad the conditions were and I too took pictures to send in. It was seemingly clean, but everything was just so old and worn that I simply couldn’t believe it. Just outside the Economy cabin looked very nice, all new seats and carpets etc, but this was basically their lav I presume (E+). A couple hours later, nature called again but this time I used the front lav by the flight deck door. It was perfect inside. Except for very old faucet design, it was “spiffy and new looking” so now I get it:
1: United knows how to renovate an old lavatory
2: United will do this for the premium cabin
3: Economy passengers are not worthy of a renovated lav
(Yet: the Economy tickets on that flight were very expensive, so buying up to F was a no brainer)
4: I can understand not pouring a lot money into something that is only going to have a very short life. But with every UA aircraft PACKED, that translates into many, many hundreds of thousands of passengers who will have to use these lavs before the 752s move on- how many years (roughly) do the UA752’s have left? If it’s more than 6 months- United, please fix all the lavatories, it’s the decent thing to do!

Complaining about that here. Really does you no good. Email, Tweet, Facebook, etc. UA.

But to let you know some info. 757 First Class Lavs get used about 1/3 the time Coach class Lavs get used. So the wear and tear will be considerable more in Coach Lavs.

I don’t go to social media to be one of the people among the others calling them “dog killers” and dredging up the “Dr Dao” disaster or “broken guitar”.
I will absolutely write them either through “contact us” on their website and upload my pictures, or paper letter by mail, and I have gotten returned emails (not form letters) or phone calls. Once I got a call from a famous United executive! So, they do read them.
I also let them know when they send me my post-flight survey and aside from clicking “extremely disappointed”- I also write using very strong, but professional language so it’s taken seriously.

The first class lav looked nothing like the worn out one. Not just less used. Everything was replaced with new modern mirrors, walls, lights (including the toilet) all except for the stainless steel sink.

Does anyone recall United Napkin sculptures that the FA’s used to put in the lavatories? They were like origami but with white fire resistant cloth napkins. They were a really nice touch, although I’m thinking 25 years ago!

You guessed it! $5980 for the 4. And this is a large discount over the rack rate for the Private Suites. It’s for the select few.

I don’t see myself joining this privileged group of people anytime in the near future- and I rarely go to LA. But as high as the prices might be, they are a drop in the ocean for some. Are there plans for Private Suite expansion to other airports such as JFK or EWR, etc? International? Eg: LHR?

Wow the LAX service gets a serious premium.

My family used the VIP centre at Amsterdam Schiphol over the weekend. Great experience for going longhaul to the US and did not even have to enter the regular area of the airport. for 3 of us it was ~500 Euro which I found very very reasonable. If it was $6 k like at LAX we would not use the service.

Ok, I really will write United today. Yesterday on my return was I was on the most worn and torn 752 yet. So bad, I won’t even get into the particulars- it just looked like an ac flying for an airline in Ch11.

I’m a United lover- I’m not saying these things because I am a UA hater...so it really pains me to see UA fly birds in such conspicuously poor condition.

QUESTION: has UA ever made a statement about refurbishing the 752 fleets? Both the transcontinental and TATL versions? We know their plans for so many different aircraft types, but the only thing I’ve ever read about regarding the 752’s is the head scratching over their ultimate replacements.

So, until the 737MAX10’s arrive, with bespoke designed bed seats in F, what is the plan to keep their 752’s flying in the meantime and not looking like junk- how many years do they have left?

N17002 B2 18Oct CHSFTW for painting. I hadn’t noticed this before but Boeing uses the aircraft’s ‘variable number’ as the flight number for all its production flights. N17002 is ZC038 so all it’s flights will be BOE38.

UA's Q3 SEC filing states 27 x 787's on order. That accounts for the 13 789's and 14 78J's. So the long rumored 11x 78J top up order is not on the books.

Additionally, they confirmed the Q4 deliveries: 3 x 787 all J's, 3x 739Max, 1x 77W.

I have never heard the rumor of more 78Js. And even if the so called rumor was true I'm pretty sure the would have announced the sizable order.

Flew 871 when it was still DL Cnx (9E). Saw that it was transferred to SKW for UAX flying not long after I flew it, and interesting to see that it is back with 9E again.
To me, it will always be:
- Bombardier CSeries
- Airbus A321neoLR and A321neoXLR
- EMBRACER ERJ-170, ERJ-175, ERJ-190, and ERJ-195
- MITSUBUSHI MRJ

Anti narrowbody-long range-twinjet gang. Long live the A380 and 747!

I agree UA will order more 78J's in time. I was pointing out the commonly accepted top up order is not there. Since that rumor was added to the site, we've seen an additional 789 order the rumored order for 78J's was not added. Therefore, it doesn't exist as financially UA would have to report it.

With that in mind, the UA capital plan in the 10Q looks like it's full for 2019 (primarily 78J's and used nb a/c) and 2020 (primarily 789's and used nb a/c) for aircraft. 2021 has some room for adds.

Does anyone know when United took the aircraft section of their website down? It has to be in the last couple weeks, because I checked it fairly recently to see if the 78J or 77E with Premium Plus had been added. I hope it's just temporary while they are adjusting these maps. It would be very disappointing if they removed them, like I think Delta did years ago.

I noticed the other day that UA is not selling first class anymore on the 77E's. Updated in the seat map.

They don't list the new config 77E's either, same for the PE 77W's. Also 78J is missing...time to update!!!

It's still on the website, but someone made a mistake (you can't navigate to it anymore) and now the only way you can find it is to search for the aircraft using the search bar.

I guess I'll have to bookmark that, since the link has been romoved from Inflight Services. Although, if the link is removed, that suggests that they might no longer update it, which would be sad. I'm still annoyed that they removed their PDF route maps from the website. Now if I want to look at them, I have to go to Ink Live and look at the flip through Hemispheres magazine.

I found it by going to travel information, then airport information. The screen then says airport and aircraft information. At the bottom of the screen, click on aircraft information.

Forgive me if this has been discussed. I don't follow this thread very often anymore, even though I started the original one years ago. What routes are planned for the upcoming 787-10s? Will ORD finally see any of UA's 787s? I picked my screen name around 2005 and still haven't been on the 787, primarily because UA doesn't fly them from my home base, ORD :(

Thanks UAinAUS from another thread for this info:

772:
N793UA confirmed with Polaris/PE. Scheduled to fly 896/25Oct
N799UA set to enter XMN for Polaris/PE after flying 895/23Oct
8 complete, 25 more sUA 772ERs to go - includes 3 or 4 in XMN mod

So there are 3-4 777s at the same time going through Polaris mods? Thats pretty agressive.

That link doesn't do anything to answer United787's question – that link states what maybe two frames will do during a familiarization period.

United787, what I've seen in this thread and elsewhere on this board is that the initial summer 2019 schedules put all the 787-10s on EWR-Europe flying. :-(

Yes the transatlantic flights are rumoured but right now they will fly transcontinental.

Well Airports is not the most intuitive place to put Aircraft.

The person's question was "What routes are planned for the upcoming 787-10s?" The link answers them. For starters EWR to the West Coast.

I was unaware that the 787-10 was going to be delivered with the old 2-2-2 J seats. I know it takes a long time to order the seats but polaris has been planned for years seems they should be getting delivered with the far superior Polaris seat. Obviously the 777-300ER is the flagship of the fleet but the 787 is the most modern widebody getting delivered seems it should get the newest product... Just my $0.02

Not sure where you are getting that from....the 787-10 (and all the 787-9s going forward) are being delivered with Polaris seats up front.

It's not. The last 77W on order, all 787-10 and the 787-9s to follow will have "true" Polaris. Fact.

No more new Diamond seats.

Another comment about possible A321LR for UA. I don't know anything about this source, but it mentions a comment by an IAG exec on a webinar. Maybe someone has more details on that?
https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news ... ic-service

I know UA has been very supportive of the 797, but as it is still not green-lit, at some point, UA is going to have to reach for at least a stop gap. Get a move on, Boeing. At this point, I think Boeing could really target the 797 as more of a 762/763 replacement, and have plenty of market. Some airlines might still use it to replace 752's, but also maybe earlier A330's. If UA got maybe 20-25 A321LR, they could probably make the 752's/763's last until the 797, and upguage slightly, some of the 752 routes. The A321LR's could always find a place on P.S., Hawaii, GUM, or even some South American expansion routes. I don't think UA would regret getting a small fleet, and not worrying about replacing all 56 752's right now.

Aircraft 3727 exits SFO tonight for IAH as a domestic configured 737-700, aircraft 3732 enters SFO tonight. Not sure what the plan is for 3732.

Great I'm happy to hear that. The pics that are in the story posted from USA today must show an old 787-8 or 787-9 with the Diamond Seats. I was thinking those were pics of the new 787-10 on the interior.

Those pictures are date-stamped 2012... UA's delivery of its first 787-8.

Interesting as the seat map on both flights show non-slimline domestic configs. I would expect both to have slimlines with GUM or domestic configuration been swapping out 738s from GUM to Mainland and reverse, so maybe the 73G is doing the same. Probably due to extensive ocean air in GUM to rotate aircraft out every few years.
I keep watching N15712, the last non-slimline 737NG in the fleet. I would expect it to roate out of GUM if the plan is to swap units out, then get slimlines.

Both of these flights show slimline configs. The GUM fleet is swapping. The last swap of these planes was a few years ago now. The only 737 in a non-slimline conference in the entire fleet is 3712.
