N227UA 77E Polaris Mod expected test hop 10/25. That will be unit #9 when it joins the fleet next week. Should be at 11 or 12 by the end of 2018 giving you a 33% chance or so to be on a Polaris 77E. Not bad.

I flew UA 737-800 N36207 on Sunday night EWR-BNA don't believe it had slimline seats at least the F seats were very old and it still had the old DirectTV screens that seemed to be falling apart.

All 738s at this point have slimlines. I believe the only 737 (-700, -800, -900, -900ER, MAX 9) left with not-slimlines is N15712, a 737-700.

Correct. 3712 is the only non-slimline 737 and it is based in Guam.

What about the new First Class seats on all the 737’s that don’t have them? I think just the -700’s have them?

I imagine we will see an announcement about the 737-800s before long, but not until after all of the 753s and 73Gs are completed (Note: There is only one 73G left to go). Outside of the 738 F seats being very worn, they are in pretty bad shape mechanically as well, many of them do not recline correctly and end up at weird angles. The 739 and 739ER fleet likely won't see the new F seats for a while. UA went cheap on those F seats and they aren't holding up so well but with that fleet being so new we won't see a change for a while.

Finally- thanks!!!
Agree that the -800 seat is the worst of anything, shabby and yes, often something mechanically something is wrong- but mostly uncomfortable! (The last thing an F seat should be) The -900 seat is a bit better, and better looking, but still has a very “generic” F seat look to it, it could be “ANY” airline F seat. How far back do those decisions go?
Those seats along with the generic bulkheads etc will make a decent new 737-900 look old when flying next to the MAX’s and new (used) A319’s.

All told, pleased to learn that UA is moving forth with reconfiguring the 77Q aircraft to the Polaris.

During '17, I flew such ORD-MUC-ORD in a new 77W. The Polaris configuration is such an improvement over that of the 77Q. Flying Business, a passenger paying some 4X the Coach fare have to sit four abreast, facing aft, and unavoidably making eye contact with other passengers.

Of course, the W configuration is kind of taken out of the hides of those Aft of the curtain. 3-4-3 is too chummy for me. After Dinner service during '17, I took a hike back there (an Attendant who knows an Attendant I know was working), but returning forward, there was strong unexpected turbulence and I grabbed the first open seat and bolted up. That was simply to tight to even consider an overseas flight so seated.

But finally, for my '18 trip, it was back to a 77-Q. 6A was available both ways (they do not normally sell 6B), but still the unwanted eye contact with 6-D.

Maybe if I go during '19, there will be enough reconfigured 77-whatever around. Sure would be nice.

Well there are currently twelve either in service or in mod. There are 21-22(?) to go... and there seem to be three mod lines going .. at the moment anyway. So your odds are moving toward 50%+ in the next few months.

When this is swapped out, IPTE will be over on the 763. Passengers rejoice. N654UA will be right behind it finished up I'm assuming. Does that mean the ex-HA ones will go over then?

I thought I saw on this thread earlier that the PMCO772's will start mod in Oct 2018. Any truth to that?

I don’t think so. Priority is getting the 3-cabin birds reconfigured first. I would guess the 777-224s are a year out from mod.

Thanks for that update IAHCSR ( Houston Customer Service, perchance). I was "spoiled" during '17 when United was "breaking in" the new 77-W ORD-MUC. The privacy those Polaris pods offer is, shall we say, "priceless".

So if I go again during the Salzburg Festival this August (train from MUC), pleased to learn that you believe there is a 50-50 chance the aircraft will be Polaris configured (I'm checking fares now. Wouldn't even think of "main cabin"; no dough for Business? At my age, just don't go).

Exciting 2 months for UA with 3x 78J's and 1x 77W being added. Sure would hate to write those for checks! Four more Polaris/PE units is also good for the customer.

Assume the 77W will allow for one existing 77W to be in mod for PE consistently going forward.

I sent a message into 1K voice asking them to route it to the website administration team to make these updates. I've done this a couple of times in the past as well and usually it takes 4-6 weeks for them to pop up.

In other news 763 - N641UA's test hop in HKG was canceled, they must have found something they didn't like in the pre-flight checks.

I totally missed that UA is actually removing Directv from planes. Is it limited to this 753 fleet or will it expand to the broader 737 fleet (since I know the Airbus, 752 and widebody fleet does not have dtv)?

Some news releases from Skywest

SkyWest agreed to a multi-year extension with United Airlines for 60 CRJ200s currently under a capacity purchase agreement. These 60 aircraft originally had contract maturities over the next few years.

I think they're waiting for their contract with DirectTV to be up, that's what I've heard. Once it's up they're ripping the TVs out.

This means all 763 including the LHR birds will no longer be 3 Class Physically? I mean, updated seats in Y, Overhead bins, ISP, and a PTV that's actually bigger than my hand?! LOL

I flew a 777. N225UA FRA-ORD in Y, still had PMUA interior, and Tulip! Lord!

Thanks,

Eventually the removals will expand to the 737 fleet but from the contract terms that have been rumored on here and other forums over the past couple of years the 737s have not reached that point at which the screens can be removed yet. Someone may have better information than I do but the rumored terms were that the DTV screens were to stay in the entire type for 10 years after the last install in that type was completed. The last install that I know of occurred sometime in 2012 in a 739ER so I doubt we see removal of any DTV screens from any 737s until ~2022.

Only one left (N660UA), due to HKG as soon as N641UA or N654UA escape.

Next up, presumably, is the STC bird for the new 76L configuration (46J/22W/47Y+/52Y). I am guessing this will be N684UA (former N588HA).

Right now there are only 3 753s shown in the air on FlightAware vs. 31 752s. I don't know if this glitch is with FlightAware or if UA has the aircraft tagged wrong.

763:
N641UA sked to enter HKG Polaris mod 2767/7Sep
N647UA now sked to exit HKG 2770/8Sep with Polaris/winglets

772:
N774UA entered HKG 2782/2Sep, putting 3 772HD units in HKG currently for maint.

77W:
N2333U exited SFO 871/5Sep w/o PE.

According to Flightradar24 N774UA is still in HKG. Does maint. Usually takes that long? Or is it a glitch on Flightradar24?

77Q is the three-cabin IPTE 777-222ER.

77Y is the two-cabin former CO 777-224ER.

Nothing silly about this question at all. 77Q are the pmUA 3 class 772ER. The pmCO are 77Y.

N14001 Yesterday was actually a Boeing FCF flight. The C1 is happening today 31Oct.. even as I post this.
BTW apparently the FAA has not yet certified the 78J with GEs... (or so I just read).

There is a software issue in the GEnx engines for the 787-10 that will not be fixed until late 2019. Boeing is pushing for a waiver for the -10s to be operated under until GE releases the software. The last article I saw on this was June (https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/faa-pushes-back-on-boeing-exemption-for-787-safety-f-449263/)

I would imagine that if we were going to run into a delayed entry into service situation it would have been announced at this point with delivery very close but stranger things have happened....

May be resolved - Etihad GE Powered 787-10 delivered on Oct 30th.

I believe a temporary software update was developed and implemented which will hold it over to full resolution in the first half of 2019.

United is planning to deploying the -10 on ETOPS routes by March, so there must be some fix identified.

According to UA staff it will be delivered some time within the next two weeks.

Also, I noticed that a lot of the B39Ms have registrations beginning with "37." Is that a nod to the 737?
To me, it will always be:
- Bombardier CSeries
- Airbus A321neoLR and A321neoXLR
- EMBRACER ERJ-170, ERJ-175, ERJ-190, and ERJ-195
- MITSUBUSHI MRJ

Anti narrowbody-long range-twinjet gang. Long live the A380 and 747!

They’re going to wait two weeks? Probably because of the 78J delivery to pay for first.
Nx75yy is the overall pattern, ‘x’ being essentially random and ‘yy’ In numerical sequence. However ‘N37’ does appear six times in the first 11 registrations so there could very well be something to nodding.

Nice milestone for UA and they will get these units pretty fast between now and April. So who is the "flagship" at UA then? 77W or 78J? Both should be sweet with Polaris/PE/E+.
