N4901U has FINALLY left LCQ as UA2707 to HOU. UA clearly in no rush to get these two exCZ into service. Uncertain if work on N1902U has even started yet. :scratchchin:

Interesting: “the very high premium 763” what is the difference? PE or Polaris seat count?

I was thinking that the 764 would be perfect for PE given the additional length? But all I hear or read are conflicting reports about the 764s being refitted or retired. Any reliable sources about what IS planned for the 764 (I thought UA loved them?)

Thanks

Sorry: in this diagram are the straight forward seats indicated almost as a white line, one by the 2 sidewalls and one down the center? I see the angled seats fine!

I haven't read this thread for awhile, I missed that united was doing premium heavy 763's! I went back and read 4 pages and didn't find my answers so apologize if they are further back in the thread:
1) How many premium heavy 763's are they doing?
2) Any idea what routes these are for?

Not surprising... given the age of the aircraft when undergoing a HMV and such a heavy makeover you are bound to discover tons of problem!

And also better to discover all the problems before re-entering service than having issues down the line huh?

Dude it already had 3 test flights with an Engine Change. It still needs another test flight.

sorry if this was answered, but is UA releasing a separate 763 with a premium heavy layout or is it the same as the current polaris seating just with PE?

This will be a subfleet... it will be used mostly on LHR/GVA rotations.

its crazy how they can sell that many premium seats for LHR giving how many flights they have and with the other airlines.

I bet that LHR prices for J are generally lower than other markets, but has enough mid-premium demand to fill many more seats at those lower prices. To some leisure market, you might not be able to sell half the seats at bargain prices, and some markets like AMS or CDG have a finite demand for premium, but that demand is willing to pay a lot more. With all the inter-commerce between London and the US, I think there would be many companies willing to pay $2-5k per seat.

I would think that many companies in NJ (and there are more than many people know) have a UA contract. If you don’t have a contract I have found UA prices as high as high as most other European destinations- over $5000 for J, same as GVA on the same July dates!
Then there is NYC traffic too.
Often when I go to Europe for business I will need (or try and piggyback meetings) and will go to LHR first, then have LH or LX etc take me elsewhere.
United is certainly behind with the diamond seats but when they have the 787-10 (and high J 767) on the route UA will have a great and competitive business class experience from EWR. (IMHO)
Last: the morning flight is almost always sold out!

Which would you prefer - shake out all the problems and issues now or get it out and discover them down when it's flying over the Pacific?

To be honest when these aircraft come in they look more ready for being scrapped than being upgraded...

It's like trying to get a vintage car to run as a daily drive - not impossible but a huge amount of work and money is required.

Being a pride and joy and have a drive in the sun is one thing, as a daily workhorse is quite another.

Won't go into the detail for the refly... but at least it can take off and land in one piece....

What is United doing with all the Global First seats after they are removed? Do they get a shot a an afterlife or just a landfill?

pretty sure the seats are going to the landfill. those seats are out of date and old, no one is going to want them anyway! Samething with the old business (2-3-2), a lot of them just got scrapped.

Well, I still think they are comfortable while old. Perhaps on top of a cargo 747?

I just got off one of the old, newly refurbished A319s (the FA called it an A319C, for China) and WOW, was it beautiful inside!
I was in 1F and it had that “new plane smell” and I loved the design and surfaces...even the lav was well done.
I looked at her in the Miami sun and she was glistening...I think I finally solved in my head what the new livery ought to be!
Oh, and the cheese platter was shockingly good and generous. The cheese tasted like it was “finer” quality than the usual cubes in the lounge...Eg; European tasting. The cheese cake was really good! Bravo UA!

I agree. I was recently on one of those ex-CX birds and they were very nicely done. The bulkhead covering and lavs looked great! Looked like a brand new airplane. Now, if they only do the same to the existing 319/320s.

Easier said than done - the current 763ER polaris conversion config does not cover the design of the Hawaiian birds where the exit doors layout is different, so it will need another STC program for only these three birds...

The three exHA birds may indeed need a separate STC as they are not exactly the same as the UA birds (I'm not sure) but I believe they have the same exit door configuration. HA operates multiple door configurations including the "standard" one that UA uses.

These three HA have the same four door/two overwing exit configuration as the UA. Plus they already have the winglets. They will almost certainly need a new STC for one reason or another... that’s typical for FAA.

Yes, I wish that too, at LEAST, the bulkheads! They already have the better F seat. Although, I it could be my imagination, the F seats on this ex-CX bird were even more comfortable...the cushions were slightly softer.
Either way, I far prefer the UA Airbus fleet or the 737-7 because they have the new F seat...which IMHO makes the price premium worth it. Their 737-8/9 with older style F seats and boring blue are so inferior to the this CX bird I was on - I’d rather see them spend the money now to update the newer 737s. Not only is it more comfortable and more attractive, the storage and power are flawlessly thought through (Priestman Goode) and have the tablet slot on the table, which 4 of the 8 folks on my flight were using. Those 737-8/9s are gonna really stand out after the 155 737MAXs arrive, they will become least desirable while they are still very young.
Just thought of something: have UA announced how long it will be for them to take delivery of all 155 MAX’s?

So it looks like I was given the wrong information concerning N796UA. The aircraft is currently on its way to SFO and the current seat map I'm seeing in Unimatic is showing 50-24-202 for a total of 226 seats in coach the other reconfigured Polaris 777 have 244 seats in coach. I did some digging and found a seat map in the SSD that shows 20-22 with a configuration of 2-4-2 and row row is configured 0-4-0. Because it is the weekend I have not been able to positively confirm that N796UA does in fact have both Polaris and PE installed but from what I'm seeing in both Unimatic and in the SSD it would seem so. Early internal reports were this aircraft would not have PE installed because UA needed more time however if what I'm seeing turns out to be true it would be great news for UA and for passengers. Hopefully we are finally on track and everything goes smoothly from here on out.

It is confirmed PE has been installed on our first 77E ahead of schedule barring any last minute plane changes flight UA990 SFO-CDG on 6/25 will be the first flight.

The seat map show four lavs in business class. That's an amazing ratio per passenger!

Wow: $12,577 is the lowest RT price that day - and I finally saw the seat map, just one angled window left, about 10 center seats open.
So, question: @$12,577 isn’t that an almost a First Class kinda fare? I selected the following Friday to return and it was a HD 772!!! That’s A LOT of money to get the “suspended animation” seat on the return!
I don’t know what business/First fares are from SFO to Paris in the summer on UA or AF etc...
If United “sells” seats at these prices then they should be very hopeful about a very profitable future!

For those of you looking for the seat map for N796UA United.com fleet section has not been updated yet. In order to see the specific seat map you will need to do a dummy booking for SFO-CDG 6/25 and click seats the new seat map has been upload for this specific flight. As it stands right now this aircraft is scheduled SFO-CDG-IAD-FRA, barring any last minute plane changes. However the aircraft did leave XMN 24 hours later than scheduled the report wasn't clear on the exact reason for the delay it only stated waiting on clearance for certain items, which I'm assuming is probably paperwork and FAA approval as we already had slot approval from the airport authority.

Just go to flight status UA 990 for tomorrow and you get the map. It shows a few PE open that you can book at normal E+ so giddy up any elites and move your seat!

That is what I did, a dummy booking through to the return before canceling. I then checked SFO/FRA (which is a 789) and it was $5,500+ for Polaris Business. Is true Polaris the new First Class, I cannot help but wonder!

I know I’ve asked this question before, but it’s been a long time since I did last:
After having just flown an ex-CX A319, and seeing how beautiful the new interiors are, with the new domestic F seat, is UA going to refit all the 737-8/9s they have?
I can’t help but think that with refreshed (ether in whole or in part) Airbus fleet, the 737-700, 757-300 and 155 upcoming 737 MAXs, that their 737-8/9 will be quite noticeably inconsistent.
I see there are over 270 737-8/9 in the fleet (if wiki is accurate) so it would be MEGA EXPENSIVE to do, but perhaps at least install the new F seat which is FAR better and maybe some kind of nicer branding when boarding would be fiscally prudent while creating a better reason to buy up to F?
It’s a tad ironic that the used CX A319 have a much, much nicer interior than newer 737-8/9 (especially the ERs that fly some very long routes!)
In fact me thinks transcontinental flights such as SFO/MIA (etc) should get the diamond seats coming off wide bodies if they would fit on a 737!

I would expect that some time in the next 12 months we hear the launch of a program to retrofit the 737-800s with the new F seat. The F seats on the -800s are pretty worn at this point (both visually and mechanically) and could use to be replaced. My suspicion is that it would be somewhat timed with the removal of the DTV screens from the headrests. I can't find a link to the forum where I read this but I want to say the DTV contract runs for 10 years after the last install was completed (~2012 --> 2022).

Regarding the -900s, I don't imagine we'll hear anything about retrofitting them until the -800s are mostly complete because most are so new. The unfortunate thing with the -900s is the seats were 'cheap' and don't hold up nearly as well as the older model on the -800s so we'll either be stuck with broken seats for quite a while or UA will replace them before they probably intended to.

Yeah, I see 2 kinds of F seats on the -800/900 and one is “okay” and the other is horrible- it has like a tin plate in the back.
Still think it would be a leapfrogging move to have a sub-fleet with 2x2 bed seats!

I flew a 739 (non-ER) the other day and those F seats are horrible. That said I’m not a fan of the new F seats (although they are head and shoulders above the CO seats). The storage spaces and trays work great, the 30-pound marble table is just overkill. The seat to me feels slanted downward. The seat back angle in upright position is fine, but the seat is way too loose when reclining. At least the DirecTV button is in a logical place.

I think the old UA domestic F seats were probably the best, followed by whatever was put in to the sub fleet of CO 737s with the Sky Interior when DirecTV wasn’t available, but I haven’t flown one of those in awhile. (What was the story behind those?) There seems to be another subfleet without DirecTV but slightly different seats.

Really? That’s why Baskin Robins has 31 flavors! I love the recline on the new seats! I feel like it’s actually reclining, and I go right to sleep. Although I agree- NOTHING was better than the original, legacy UA seat back, in domestic F and during the international recliner days in business, they even beat European carrier’s recliners. They were truly ergonomic and great for your back. (Had the massage function) I flipped when I saw those go for a typical square recliner on narrow body ac. It was like someone with no booty chose them!

I think it would be good for United to have a progress chart like Polaris but for narrow body renovations and MAX deliveries and United Club renovation and spruce ups. It would help them paint a better picture of how much they are investing across the board because even the frequent UA fliers see change so slowly- while UA is the smallest of the 3, it’s still a HUGE airline.

How many of the ex-CX Airbus A319 are finished and flying?

There are 12 -319s in service right and 1 -320. There's one 320 going through induction right now at LCQ. It should enter service in the next couple of months. Unfortunately UA is not scheduled to take delivery of anymore used 319s or 320s until 2019.

Thank you so much GmoneyCO! Well, given the fact I can see the level of quality United is pouring into those used Airbus’ I’m not surprised it would take time. Did they come in good condition, or did they require a lot of maintenance?

It's hard to say without detailed inside information which we aren't purview to. As part of the FAA certification process I'm sure they went through a significant amount of maintenance even in areas that may not have required it in order to fulfill the FAA requirements and bring them into line with the other UA 319s.

753:
N75853 - Possibly in RFD for slimlines.  It shows that it entered SFO on 19-June but hasn't moved since which would be odd for a 753.

787-10
First UA Delivery (LN731) - Working down the FAL with a roll-out date slated for early July just after the 4th of July holiday.  Delivery scheduled for 11/1/2018
Second Delivery (LN 763) - Delivery scheduled for 12/3/2018
Third Delivery (LN 782) - Delivery scheduled for 12/1/2018
Fourth Delivery (LN 548 -- 2nd 787-10 Test AC) - Delivery scheduled for 12/17/2018
Fifth Delivery (LN 795) - Delivery scheduled for 1/24/2019

If everything continues as planned we will likely see limited INTL service on the 787-10 before the end of CY2018.  It's worth noting that Boeing and GE are in discussions with the FAA regarding a known software issue with the GEnx issues that could delay the delivery of all GE powered 787-10 aircraft into Q1 2019.  [

There is actually 1 A320 flying right now I believe it enter revenue service sometime last week the tail number is N4901U. One of the reason why it is taking so long with the China Southern A320s is in addition to having to reconfigure the passenger cabin these A320s have containerized cargo compartments and a bulk pit. United is basically gutting the entire aircraft not just the passenger cabin but also the cargo pits are being gutted as well and I hear removing the containerized system and all the components that go with it takes time. One aircraft is in service the second N1902U is still at LCQ no time frame has been given for when it will be ready to enter revenue service.
